Daniel Sepiol overturned a massive chip deficit to grab the $1,500 Shootout bracelet last night in Vegas, Sean Troha joined him in the winner’s circle, and the legendary Sammy Farha bagged the chip lead in the $1500 Big O.
Another busy day at the 55th Annual World series of Poker crowned two champions, one a “newbie” and the other completing a hatrick. Let’s start with Daniel Sepiol’s amazing fightback…
Event #23: $1,500 Shootout NLH
Day 3, the third and final of the event, saw a change in format: gone was necessity to “win your table to advance” and instead a traditional two-table setup was in place for the final 16.
That was reduced to one table when newly-minted $25k Heads-up champion, Darius Samual, saw his kings shredded in brutal fashion…
Darius Samual: K♣ K♥
Robert Natividad: A♦ A♣
Flop: A♥ 2♥ 4♥
Turn: 3♦
River: A♠
Natividad picked up aces again to bust Aaron Pinson with 10s and then ousted Scott Ball whose queens couldn’t stave off big slick.
That latter hand matchup appeared again in Daniel Strelitz’s bustout, the double bracelet winner 4-bet shoving with jacks only to see Sepiol reshoving with queens and Ausmus finding a lay-down with AK. The queens held.
Sepiol and Natividad survived to heads-up, the Filipino player extending his lead to 19-1 before a comeback for the ages saw Sepiol turns things around.
A rivered wheel and top vs bottom end of a straight saw Sepiol survive then flourish, eventually coming out on top, the final hand playing out below…

With the guarantee smashed by almost 100% and 754 players still in with a shout, two-time bracelet winner Dan Heimiller leads the way.
Event #24: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship (8-Handed)
Sean Troha appears to have decided to win a bracelet each year, yesterday adding a third WSOP gold to his $10k PLO (8-handed) title of 2022 and his $1500 PLO win of last yar.
He topped a tough final table that included Brazilian duo Joao Simao and Yuri Dzivielevski, 3rd and 4th respectively, defeating Tyler Brown heads-up to win the title and $536,713.

Event #25: $3,000 6-Handed Limit Hold’em
Ten players remain after day 2 of the $3k 6-handed NLH, with one Canadian (Daniel Idema) and one Brit (Robert Wells) hoping to upset the home crowd later today.
Both are very short-stacked, however, and they’ll do well to ladder up, with chip leader Daniel Vampan holding a commanding lead.
Event #26: $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (8-Handed)
Samuel Laskowitz is only playing his 3rd World Series but having made a name for himself at this year’s US Poker Open it’s not a complete surprise to see him leading the biggest buy-in event so far on the WSOP schedule.
It’s early days still, though, as 99 players return from an original 274, with late registration available today and Phil Ivey, Dario Sammartino and Chino Rheem among the top 10 chip counts.
Event #27: $1,500 Big O
Sammy Farha is memorable at the WSOP for a number of reasons, his iconic heads-up loss to Chris Moneymaker and Main Event first-hand bustout of Oliver Hudson among them.
Yesterday he finished the day leading a remaining field of 232, all in the money, including Mike Matusow, Allen Kessler and John Racener. Fellow old-school legend Eli Elezra was among those who fell, as did Alex Foxen and Shaun Deeb.
Today also sees the start of Event #28: $1,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em and Event #29: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship (6-Handed).
That’s it for another day’s action at the 2024 WSOP, but be sure to tune in for your daily dose again tomorrow!
