Day 46 of the WSOP 2024 Main Event saw the field reduced to only 59 survivors while Joseph Cheong took flak for an outrageous slow roll in the $50K High Roller.
We also saw another champion crowned with Sascha Wilhelm taking down Event #86: $1,000 Mystery Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha for a $282,290 payday.
Kristen Foxen and Shundan Xiao Lead the Charge for a Lady’s Main Event Victory
When play resumed this morning, 160 players took their seats in the record-breaking Main Event and only 59 remained by the early hours, all guaranteed a prize of at least $160,000.
Two of those players still in the hunt are the last two female competitors — Shundan Xiao and Kristen Foxen.
All of the previous Main Event champions have been male and there would be no better endorsement for the game than to see a female winner.
Foxen admitted that by this stage of the tournament she was starting to feel nervous.
“Today was when I started to feel nerves and it started to feel real. I’ve been very calm this whole tournament, but Day 6…I started to feel it; it’s getting close.”
“At the same time, I try to remind myself that I’ve been playing a lot, especially in the PokerGO studio. And that’s like a boot camp for poker, and I just feel very ready.
“I hear people on Day 1 or 2 saying they don’t want to be on the stream. And I was like, if you register the Main Event, you want to win. That’s going to be on stream, so get used to it.
“I’ve definitely dreamed about being the woman who takes down the Main Event. So I’m starting to live my dream. There’s still a long way to go, so I’m trying to stay calm.
She’s had nine cashes already this series and is a player of such quality and experience that she will have no trouble playing under the lights with every hand in view of the cameras.
With 14,500,000 chips we’re all expecting her to last until the sharp end.
Shundan Xiao is much less experienced, having a best cash of only $9,500. But maybe that comes with some advantages.
Nobody will have any expectations of her and, after all, we’re now through six days of play and she currently sits in second place.
The chip leader for the start of the last two days, Stephen Song, had a nightmare session, ending the day with only 2,175,000.
Brian Rast is one big hitter left in the mix, with 12,675,000 chips he will be one of the most feared opponents to see at any of the tables.

Joseph Cheong Upsets Opponent with Brazen Slowroll
Event #92: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em saw 150 entrants register to play, giving some hope that the record field of 176 will be beaten tomorrow by the time late registration ends.
Joseph Cheong leads the way after a good day, but it wasn’t without incident.
Up against David Coleman, the pot was 855,000 and the board had completed as J♣ J♥ 10♦ 2♥ J♦
Coleman jammed for just over 1,000,000 chips and Cheong went into the tank, later using one of his time bank tokens.
After a few minutes Cheong made the call and flipped over K♠ J♠ to beat the Q♠ Q♣ of his opponent.
Coleman was less than impressed, asking “What the f*** was that?”
Cheong smirked and replied “a slow roll,” while stacking his newly acquired chips.
