Day 44 of the WSOP 2024 saw all past winners of the Main Event eliminated and two more gold bracelets were awarded to maiden champions.
The focus of the series continues to be the $10,000 Main Event and yesterday’s action saw the money bubble finally burst.
A total of 446 players from the 1,524 who started the day with a hope and prayer, and now the run towards life-changing money begins with one lucky player walking away with $10,000,000.
The two bracelets awarded today went to Carsten Heidemann and Matthew Alsante.
Heidemann, an amateur from Germany, bagged a $343,010 top prize after defeating a field of 6,628 in Event #84: $600 Ultra Stack No-Limit Hold’em.
And Alsante pulled off the incredible feat of winning Event #8: $5,000 8-Handed No-Limit Hold’em against some of the world’s best players for the princely sum of $785,486.
Stephen Song Leads Adrian Mateos in Main Event
Stephen Song bagged up the biggest stack at the end of play today, and with 190 big blinds to play with tomorrow he will be looking to cement a deep run.
More than $6 million in live tournament winnings and two bracelets make him a man to be feared, but he’s not going to have it all his own way.
In second place sits Spanish legend Adrian Mateos, a man with close to $50 million won during his live career and four bracelets to his name.
Notable names returning tomorrow are Nacho Barbero (65bb), Brian Rast (64bb), Kristen Foxen (53bb), Phil Ivey (26bb).
Day 5 action will begin at midday local time.

Inaugural $1,000 PLO Mystery Bounty Kicks Off
The Mystery Bounty tournament format is all the rage right now, and so what would be more natural than adding some more of these events into the WSOP 2024 schedule.
An impressive 2,582 entrants ponied up the $1k to enter and by the end of the day only 270 of them remained.
The man leading the way is Aussie Najeem Ajez, showing us all why he has $1.5 million in career earnings and six WSOP cashes to his name.
Chance Kornuth and Ryan Leng both remain in contention with decent size stacks but there’s still a long way to go in this one.

Event #88: $10,000 Eight Game Mixed Championship is another new event scheduled for the WSOP 2024 and Day 1 saw plenty of big names joining the fray.
We saw 158 players register on Day 1 but late reg continues until the end of the first level tomorrow.
New Yorker Jordan Siegel ended Day 1 with a slender lead but his successful history of non-hold’em variants and eight cashes already this summer will stand him in good stead.
Mike Watson is the man closest to the leader with mixed game specialist Marco Johnson sitting pretty in sixth place.
Yuri Dzivielevski, Maxx Coleman, Robert Mizrachi, Scott Seiver, and Daniel Weinman will all be returning for Day 2 tomorrow.
