Day 2abc saw 206 players join the Main Event to bump up the total attendance to 9,493, leaving the event needing only 550 more to break the record.
With Day 2d still to come, and it being the last chance to play for an assumed eight-figure top prize, 550 isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.
Anthony Marsico is the man leading the charge right now, fresh off the back of a fantastic fourth place result in the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship a month ago.
A key hand where an opponent risked 80 big blinds with ace-king came when the American held pocket kings. He currently sits with 319 big blinds.
The day also saw many big names fall by the wayside. Former Main Event winners Phil Helmuth, Joe Hachem, Jamie Gold, Qui Nguyen, and Chris Moneymaker all failed to bag up.
Scott Blumstein, Koray Aldemir, and Hossein Ensan, on the other hand, all have a shot at a double victory.
Other notable players who will return are John Hennigan, John Duthie, Parker Talbot, Nacho Barbero, Bin Weng, Adrian Mateos, Erik Seidel, and Daniel Negreanu.
Play resumes at 12:00 pm Las Vegas time on July 9.

Viktor Blom Puts in a Charge in $1,500 8-Game
Marco Johnson had the best start in Event #83: $1,500 Eight Game Mix 6-Handed, but he won’t be having it all his own way.
Narrowly behind in chips, Viktor Blom sits in second place with Scott Seiver in the hunt for his fourth bracelet this summer sitting in fourth. We expect fireworks when play resumes tomorrow.
A total of 494 entries registered to play with only 103 surviving to come back tomorrow.
Johnson is known as a mixed game specialist and already possesses two WSOP bracelets so we can expect a good fight between the big names when play resumes.

Michael Bell in Control of $600 Ultra Stack
A total of 284 players will return for Day 2 after surviving Day 1a. At the time of writing the official number of entries is still being calculated.
Michael Bell got off to the best start, amassing a 95 big blind stack, well in front of his nearest rival Lee Clark who bagged up 65 big blinds.
Kenny Hallaert didn’t do too badly with around 50 big blinds left to work with tomorrow.
The event also saw an appearance by former professional boxer Audley Harrison. The Brit won gold at the Sydney Olympics and once challenged for the WBA heavyweight title.
After retiring from boxing, Harrison turned his hand to poker with a view to making a second career.
