WSOP 2024 Day 38 – Ensan and Aldemir survive but Raymer falls

Another day and another first hand bustout at the World Series of Poker Main Event, Tony Guglietti’s bucket list tick ending in a very early bath. Greg Raymer also fell but things went rather better for his fellow former Main Event champions, Hossein Ensan and Koray Aldemir.

Event #81: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship

After Day 1a saw 2023 champ Daniel Weinman open the 55th Annual WSOP Main Event, today it was 2004 champ Greg Raymer’s turn to do the “shuffle up and deal” honours for Day 1b.

Raymer himself would fall late in the day with jacks against aces, but he did rather better than some. If the Day 1a opening hand caught two players in the trap, yesterday produced just one disaster, Canada’s Tony Guglietti lasting mere minutes…

Tony Guglietti: 9♦ 9♣

John Gutierrez: A♠ K♠

Flop: 5♠ 7♣ 6♠

Turn: 10♠

River: 8♥

Guglietti’s river shove was quickly called by Gutierrez with the nut flush and that’s all she wrote for the Canadian businessman.

831 entries added to the 916 of day 1a, among them 10-time bracelet winner Erik Seidel, 2019 Main Event champion Hossein Ensan and 2021 champ Koray Aldemir, who all safely bagged a stack.

Less fortunate were, as mentioned, 2004 champ Greg Raymer, who fell alongside Erick Lindgren, Juha Helppi and Josh Arieh.
