WSOP 2024 Day 20 – Bracelets, Monsters and Bomb Pots

Yesterday was already the third Sunday of the 2024 World Series of Poker and it didn’t disappoint, with bracelets aplenty and thousands of players turning out for new and old events alike.

As we reported earlier today, Sergio Aido broke his WSOP duck with a career-best score, taking down Event #39: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (8-handed) for a whopping $2,026,506.

That was followed by Scott Seiver bagging his second bracelet of 2024 and his sixth overall in Event #40: $1,500 Razz. Seiver now joins the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Shaun Deeb, Chris Ferguson and Layne Flack on the all-time bracelet list.

Monster Stack, Monster Numbers

The third and final starting flight of Event #38: $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em pulled in another 3648 entries, taking the total number of entries to 8,703 of whom 2,831 survive for today’s day 2 session.

Leading the way with the only 1million+ stack is day 1b chip leader Changfeng Fan with some well-known names among the top 100, including Brian Yoon, Ryan Leng, Faraz Yaka and Jeremy Ausmus.

New Poker Variant Attracts 1300 Players

Sometimes a new event comes along that doesn’t usually see the light of day outside of cash games and yesterday it was the turn of Event #41: $1,500 Mixed No-Limit/Pot-Limit Omaha Double Board Bomb Pot.

Often played as a fun hand at dealer changeovers, the WSOP tournament version attracted 1312 entries and is already down to just 16 players who will vie for the $270,820 top prize.

Leading the way is the Chinese duo of Xixiang Luo and Quan Zhou, with Daniel Hachem – son of 2005 WSOP Main Event champion “Aussie” Joe Hachem – sandwiched between them.

Cream of the Crop in Seven-Card Stud

As expected, Event #42: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship attracted a wealth of talent, the game being one of the most-played variants in the history of poker.

Only 11 players remain of the 107 who set out two days ago and yesterday saw the money bubble burst when Cheryl Denzik fell in 18th spot.  By the end of the day, Mike Lang had stretched out a healthy chip lead, but his chasers include nine bracelet holders.
