WPT European Championship to take place at Spielbank Berlin
The World Poker Tour has announced its return to Europe. For the first time ever the WPT will be heading to Berlin, Germany for a televised Season XVI European Championship.
The event has been eagerly awaited by the German poker community, who didn’t have a major poker tournament anymore.
It will take place at the Spielbank Casino from 5th to 15th of January 2018 at Spielbank Berlin, who has already hosted the EPT and WSOP Europe in the past.
However, this marks a milestone for poker in Germany as it is the first time ever that the WPT stops in Germany!
1 Million Euro Guaranteed at the Main Event!
The WPT Germany will have a total guaranteed prize pool of not less than 1 Million Euro!
It will feature not one, but two highlight events: Kicking the festival off in style is a €1,500 WPTDeepStacks event from January 5th to 8th with a €500,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Absolute highlight is of course the €3,300 European Championship Main Event from 10th to 15th of January 2018 with 1 Million Euro GTD!
Live streams from the two highlight events
Both highlight events are being filmed for broadcast as part of the WPT’s televised Season XVI coverage and the final tables will be streamed live on the internet across the world.
“Spielbank Berlin is honored to partner with the World Poker Tour to welcome the WPT to Germany for the first time in its rich history. Poker’s popularity in Europe is no secret. We are proud to welcome players not only from across all of Europe, but the entire world, and to showcase all that this amazing region has to offer on the global stage of the World Poker Tour”, said Marcel Langner, Director of Operations for Spielbank Casino.
“Much has changed since the last World Poker Tour in Europe”
“It is with great pleasure that the World Poker Tour announces the WPT European Championship and the return of a televised event to Europe. Much has changed since the WPT’s last televised European event in Season XII, but one thing that has remained certain is Europe’s incredible enthusiasm for poker. The continent is home to some of the world’s most talented poker players, including several WPT Champions Club members. We look forward to hosting the entire poker world in Berlin for the televised WPT European Championship”, said Adam Pliska, CEO of the World Poker Tour.
