Ukraine’s Volodymyr Palamar scooped the big win this week on GGPoker, taking down the GGMillion$ SHR title for the third time and boosting his GGMillion$ winnings to more than $3million.
With 145 entries at $10,300 per head, the prizepool of $1.45million promised five six-figure paydays up top and 15 players paid in total, four of them from Brazil.
Alisson Piekazewicz and Breno Bertalia fell in 15th and 14th spots respectively, each taking the $24,166 min. cash. By the time the final table of nine was reached, the money was up to a guaranteed $43,597.
As usual, the Tuesday night final table stream saw Jeff Gross joined by a special guest to call the action, this time Canadian poker pro and world-class Pokémon trading card specialist, Sebastian Crema, in the booth.
Among the contenders for the title this week, Russia’s Nikita Kuznetsov, Brazilian duo Bruno Volkmann and Fabiano Kovalski, alongside Belarus’ highrollers Mikalai Vaskaboinikau and Dmitry Kravchenko.
Israel’s Barak Wisbrod, Latvian crusher Aleksejs Ponakovs and Swiss pro, Diego Zeiter, filled out the table.
It took half an hour for the first casualty, and it was Wisbrod who ran bad, getting it in good with AK against AJ only to watch four hearts appear in a row to flush him out in 9th spot.
It wasn’t to be for Belarus businessman Vaskaboinikau either, one of this year’s biggest winners on the live felt finding himself short stacked and staring down at A9 in the big blind facing a button raise.
The race was rather one-sided, however, when Palamar flopped a set against top pair and that was that for the Belarusian.
Ponakovs’ demise came after he shoved into Kovalski’s UTG open, the Brazilian calling it off…
Kovalski: J♠ J♥
Ponakovs: A♠ Q♠
Flop: 5♥ 7♥ 8♣
Turn: 5♠
River: 5♦
Kovalski couldn’t run it up any further, though, losing a chunk to a Kuznetsov runner-runner escape and then blasting off the rest with A♥ 7♥ in the small blind to Kravchenko’s A♦ 9♣ in the big blind.
Down to five and it was Kovalski’s compatriot, Bruno Volkmann, next to hit the rail, and in a similar fashion. First, he lost a chunk with pocket 6s against A5 and then got it all-in with not enough…
Volkmann: A♠ 6♠
Kravchenko: Q♥ Q♣
“Brazil came to gamble today!”, was Jeff Gross’ cry from commentary as Volkmann’s 5-bet shove was snapped off, and there was to be no reprieve…
Flop: 9♣ 7♥ 2♦
Turn: 4♦
River: 5♣
Switzerland’s Diego Zeiter had to settle for 4th and $150k, his last 11 bigs going to Kuznetsov when 9♠ 9♥ held up against :Ks: J♦
Three handed, Kravchenko held a big lead, but it quickly dwindled when he doubled up Palamar and then paid off Kuznetsov’s turned straight. The third and final blow came when he found A10 and ran into Palamar’s AJs…
Heads-up saw Palamar hold a small lead and after a little to-and-froing the finale appeared, a cooler for the Russian playing out of Montenegro…
Palamar: Q♦ 4♦
Kuznetsov: 10♦ 2♦
Flop: 8♣ 9♦ J♦
A raising war on the flop saw all the chips go in …
Turn: 10♣
River: 3♣
…but Kuznetsov couldn’t spike an out and the title was heading to the Ukraine.
