Poker Hand of the Week Setup
Clash of the high stakes titans limitless and Trueteller in our Hand of the Week, where the later completely owns Wiktor Malinowski and gets him to stack off in a $228,900 pot with only Ace-high!
The high stakes action at GG Network continues to be insane, with constant fix figure pots. Regulars and driving forces behind the NL$1,000/$2,000 is Polish prodigy Wiktor Malinowski aka limitless and Russian wizard Timofey “Trueteller” Kuznetsov, who clash here in a very interesting hand.
As both players are regulars in the 6-max NL$500/$1,000/$2,000 game at GG Network, they have a lot of history and know each other’s game very well. The effective stack sizes at the beginning of the hand are 56,5 big blinds.
Poker Hand of the Week Action
Preflop Action:
Limitless min-raises UTG with A♣Q♣ to $4,000 and Trueteller finds Pocket Aces in the straddle. A dream situation against a very aggressive player like Wiktor. Timofey decides to go for a very large 3-bet of 4.25x to $17,000 and Malinowski calls. Pot size: $40,700
Flop:
The flop comes K♦T♣3♥ rainbow. It’s a decent flop for Trueteller as the King is certainly in Wiktor’s range and there are no flush draws on board.
Kuznetsov makes a rather small continuation bet of 1/3 pot and limitless calls with his overcard, gutshot to the nut straight and backdoor flush draw. Pot Size: $67,562
Turn:
On the 2♥ turn things are getting really interesting as Trueteller shoves for more than pot with $80,674 into $67,562.
Facing this overbet shove, Wiktor Malinowski goes deep into the tank and then decides to make the call with just Ace-high! Pot Size: $228,910
River:
They agree to run it twice. The first river is the T♦ and the second river card brings the 6♣ and a pot of $228,910 goes to Trueteller.
Poker Hand of the Week Analysis
Another sick hand from the GG high stakes! Preflop is pretty standard, the only thing to note here is that Trueteller deliberately chose a very big 3-bet size of 4.25x. He knows that limitless is very sticky and tends to call large raises. By doing this, he already starts to build the pot and maximizes his profit.
The flop is decent for both, but obviously better for Trueteller as it is rainbow and there are only few draws possible. Wiktor also picks up some equity with his overcard, gutshot to the nut straight and backdoor flush draw, so he understandably calls the small cbet.
The most interesting street in this hand is certainly the turn. Trueteller makes an overbet shove and therefore heavily polarizes his hand. He is basically saying that he either has a very string hand or nothing. Malinowski goes deep into the tank and ultimately puts Kuznetsov on a bluff, that’s probably why he calls here with.
Regarding pot odds and mathematically this call is pretty bad as limitless only has four outs on the turn and his odds of winning the hand are only 9.09%.
It nowhere near justifies calling an overbet shove, though he must have put Trueteller on a stone cold bluff. He probably thought that Timofey makes a play from the straddle, but this assumption was completely wrong as he had the nuts.
This is most likely exactly what Trueteller wanted him to believe and why he chose to go for the large overbet shove on the turn. So Trueteller clearly outplayed limitless here and managed to get maximum value.
