The biggest buy-in in poker history
The biggest buy-in tournament in poker history is about to take place in the London Hilton on Park Lane Grand Ballroom. The £1.05 million buy-in Triton Million for Charity event kicks off today.
It’s part of the London stop of the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series.
Triton has hosted multiple $1 million dollar cash games in the past. However, this is a tournament and that 1 million is in British pounds, making it a truly unique spectacle for poker fans.
It’s an invitational only event – not that any random recreational player could post the 1.25 million needed in USD to be able to get a seat.
Fedor Holz, Tom Dwan and Justin Bonomo Among Others Are Confirmed to Enter
Evidently, this event draws the biggest names in the world of poker.
The best live tournament earner of all time, Justin Bonomo is confirmed to be in the field. So are online poker legends Tom Dwan and Daniel “Jungleman” Cates.

German poker star Fedor Holz will be suspending his retirement to enter this event as well.
Other poker superstars who are playing this tournament include Jason Koon, Sam Trickett and David Peters.
And the organizers made sure it’s not just sharks. There are a number of poker loving millionaires invited, such as Bill Perkins or Czech casino owner Leon Tsoukernik.
Triton Million Event For Charity
While playing the highest level poker for millions and millions, the players can also do some good for the world.
The £50,000 tournament fee on top of the prize pool money isn’t going to the house this time – it’s going to numerous British and Asian charities.
The Prior Biggest Events in Poker History
Before the upcoming Triton super high roller in London, the $1,000,000 buy-in WSOP Big One for One Drop events held the record for the biggest buy-in poker tournament in the world.
While the sum is the same, the currency is not. Currently, 1 GBP is equal to 1.22 USD.
When the World Series of Poker first put on the $1 million tournament, Antonio Esfandiari ended up taking home the $18,346,673 first prize.
That is the most amount of money anyone has ever won in a poker tournament to this day.
Can the World Record Be Broken Now?
There’s a good chance that number can be surpassed in London this time. It all depends on the payout structure.
The total prize pool for the 2012 WSOP One Drop was $42,666,672. With the expected 50 entries to the TRITON MILLION, that will be topped with $61 million.
However, there have been events held with bigger prize pools than that.
For example, the 2006 WSOP Main Event awarded a total of $82,512,162 to its players. However, the eventual winner Jamie Gold got “only” $12 million for his victory.
The TRITON MILLION for Charity runs August 1st – August 3rd in London.
