Top 3 Poker Prop Bets in 2024

Poker player prop bets are something we can guarantee every year, from the relatively sane to the craziest wager you can dream up.

This year has seen some remarkable wagers that have captured the attention of both fans and fellow players alike. Here are the top three prop bets that stand out in 2024.

Landon Tice vs. Jeremy BeckerLandon Tice vs. Jeremy Becker – The Ultimate WSOP Crossbook Bet

In a clash of poker philosophies, young stars Landon Tice and Jeremy Becker entered into a high-stakes prop bet that promised to add an extra dimension for the watching fans during the 2024 World Series of Poker.

This bet, which was orchestrated by GGPoker ambassador Daniel Negreanu, involved a 100% crossbook across at least 25 events during the summer.

A crossbook is a form of betting where two players wager against each other based on their performances in shared events.

Essentially, if one player cashes for a certain amount while the other does not, the losing player owes the winner a percentage of their net winnings.

In this case, both Tice and Becker would be competing in various tournaments throughout the summer, with buy-ins capped at $10,000.

The stakes were high for both players as they faced off in the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas.

Despite both players ending up in the red financially over their series of tournaments, Becker emerged victorious by a margin of $71,742 due to his superior performance across more events. Tice lost $88,879 while Becker lost about $17,137.

This bet gave the fans a fascinating contrast between two different philosophies of play. Tice is known as the “Child of the Sim,” leveraging advanced theoretical strategies from GTO solvers.

In contrast, Becker is celebrated for his intuitive approach to poker, having achieved significant success without relying on software tools. Pretty much how things used to be only a decade ago.

Ethan Rampage YauRampage’s Golf Transformation Challenge – From Average to Pro

Another standout prop bet offer came from Ethan “Rampage” Yau, who is known for his bold personality both at the poker table and beyond.

This year, Rampage challenged himself to transform from a 15.5 handicap golfer to a scratch player by the end of 2025.

The odds for this ambitious wager are set at an astonishing 100-1, with Rampage willing to put up $10,000 for a potential payout of $1 million if he succeeds. Obviously this was seen as insanely improbable by anyone who has ever given golf a try.

For those who know nothing about golf, a scratch golfer is someone who can consistently shoot par or better on any course, which is no small feat for someone currently classified as a mid-handicap player who typically shoots one over par on most holes on average.

Rampage’s proposal drew skepticism from pretty much everybody who replied. Chris Moneymaker laid down odds at 100-1, declaring “shop open”.

Many believe that while it’s not impossible to improve significantly in golf, going from a mid-handicap to scratch status within such a timeframe is an uphill battle that most recreational golfers never achieve even after years of practice.

Rampage’s willingness to take on this challenge reflects his competitive nature and desire to push his limits outside of poker. However, judging by his replies in the X thread, it’s most likely that he is just seeking additional motivation for another game that he is committed to.

As of today, no bet appears to be in place but we’re sure that Rampage will continue to press for somebody to make an acceptable offer.

Ethan Rampage YauRampage Takes on the “Chat Pros” at the 2024 WSOP

As if one ambitious bet wasn’t enough, Rampage also invited online poker “chat pros” to wager against him during the 2024 World Series of Poker.

This original idea was set to bring fans and critics alike to put their money where their mouths are as they bet on Rampage’s performance throughout the summer.

The proposed wager involves these chat pros “fading” Rampage — essentially betting against him — where if he fails to cash in any of his $5,000 buy-in events, he would owe them based on the size of their bets.

Conversely, if he performs well and manages to cash in multiple events, those betting against him would have to shell out and pay him.

This bet is one of the more intriguing we have seen in recent times. A layer of engagement for both Rampage and his followers, encouraging interaction with his critics while simultaneously putting pressure on him to perform well at one of poker’s biggest stages.

Rampage’s willingness to put himself on the line demonstrates confidence in his abilities, but we wonder if this constant seeking of extra motivation via risky performance-related bets will one day bite him hard.

2024 hasn’t been a classic prop bet year, for sure, but we did at least see some interesting ideas.

Maybe gone are the days when Jungleman would try to become fluent in Chinese in only three months. Dan Smith losing a tennis match to an opponent using a frying pan instead of racket also springs to mind as a classic.
