Tom Dwan Says He Was Never Kidnapped by Triads in His Latest Interview

Tom Dwan Reflects on his incredible online poker career

The footage of the interview immediately shows the respect Nick Schulman has for Tom Dwan. The pair talk about the early days when Dwan became a poker legend overnight after his stellar performance on High Stakes Poker.

Dawn laughs nervously at the suggestion and claims he was lucky.

“That first run was insane man, you became a global poker icon—well deserved. What you did that first week on High Stakes…you dropped bombs,”

Key takes from the Tom Dwan Interview

Do you feel sentimental about the return of High stakes Poker?

Tom Dwan: “The feel of High Stakes, when it was announced, yeah I think I was pretty excited. It’s a little different during COVID and all that stuff but it still feels neat.”

“That first time, it was crazy. I’ve told this a few times before, but I think I was a little better than the people, especially at that time.”

“I was really at the top of my game.”

Schulman interjects to say that Dwan was ahead of his time back in the day, which is no doubt true. Very few people can say this about themselves no matter what their craft is.

Have you ever been so crushed by the game that you thought about giving up?

Dwan ponders, as if this is something that isn’t really obvious to him. Schulman is surprised because he himself has experienced many times a feeling of wanting to pack it all in.

T.D – “I’ve had plenty of times where I’ve needed some weeks off. But thinking that I’m done…I don’t really think i’ve had that.”

What is the most you have won and lost in a single day of poker, either in dollars or big blinds?

T.D – “Two thousand antes (in short deck NL)”

Schulman presses Dwan on a dollar amount, guessing $20 million.

“20 million, it might be over, but not all my piece. As far as the on the table amount goes”

Schulman adjusts his guess to $50 million but Dwan tells him to wait until the next “Ask Me Anything”.

The final question for this week’s video clip of the interview was duplicated countless times by posters on the TwoPlusTwo forum thread.

Have you ever been kidnapped by the Asian Mafia?

T.D – “Not that I know of!”
