The Day that Jason Koon Put 1/4 of His Entire Net Worth on the Table

Jason Koon Can Degen Like the Rest of Us

High stakes legend Jason Koon has been reminiscing over the day he had one quarter of his net worth on the poker table. The American star was commentating on Run It Once Poker’s Double Up for Charity SnG Select Shootout and gave viewers one of the best degen stories in a while.

Jason Koon’s tale took place six years ago when he was playing some high stakes poker in Macau. A friend of his asked if he would like to travel to the Philippines for a big game with a renowned loser. A guy who has legendary status for donating in the biggest games in the world.

What Koon did not know was that his friend misinformed him of the stakes. In fact, the game was four times bigger than Koon expected.

After a double up Koon found himself staring at the table almost dead inside with more than one quarter of his net worth sitting in front of him in the form of poker chips. A proper degen moment if ever there was one.

Jason Koon too Polite to Refuse Action

It says a lot about Jason Koon when we hear that he was too polite to refuse to play when he saw what the stakes were.

He says that six years ago his bankroll would stretch to a live cash game of $150/$300 NL. Maybe $200/$400 NL if there was a whale involved.

This high stakes game in a Philippines back room was an eye-watering $3000/$6000 NL!

The open raise size on average was $40,000.

In the end it all ended well. The American finished his four day trip up and didn’t come close to blowing his bankroll.

The video clip ends with him saying that he doesn’t feel that poker players owe anything to the fans when they are playing. That said, his own personal attitude is to try and give them what they want to see.

Koon says that he has lost money over the years from this attitude but in the end it has led to profits in different places from invites.
