Stephen Chidwick Closes out Triton Jeju with Victory in $20,000 Short Deck

The Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju has come to a close with Stephen Chidwick finally collecting his second Triton title.

Stephen Chidwick

The Brit is one of the most fearsome players on the circuit, currently sitting in fourth place on the all-time money list.

So, it’s incredible that it has taken him this long to rack up his second Triton win.

But after grinding out more hours than anyone else in Jeju for the last couple of weeks, he has finally done it after taking down Event #19 – $20K – Short Deck.

Stephen Chidwick Makes it Two Triton Titles

It couldn’t have been any tougher for 34-year-old Stephen Chidwick. It was yet another final table populated by the very best poker has to offer.

Yet again, Phil Ivey was in the hunt for his sixth title and Ike Haxton and Daniel Dvoress were pushing hard.

Not only that, but eventual runner-up Tan Xuan was battling to take down his second Triton title in two days and a third overall.

Chidwick said that there isn’t another player like him where it’s impossible to put him on a hand.

The heads-up battle started off with Tan and Chidwick sitting with almost identical chip stacks.

And it looked like neither player was interested in risking it all without the goods.

Small pot after small pot was pushed to either player in many cagey exchanges. But then the inevitable fireworks happened, and it came out of the blue.

Chickwick limp-shoved with ATo and Tan called it off with AKo.

A ten came on the flop followed by a flush draw for the Englishman. No king arrived on the river and it was all over in a flash.

Speaking to the media after his win, Stephen Chidwick said:

“It feels amazing. I look around all the time when I’m playing at the banners for the two-time champions and I didn’t have one…It feels great to get the win.”

“Coming close a lot of times, you get your hopes up and you get them dashed. But that’s the nature of tournament poker.”

“My family gives me incredible support. If I have a bad day, good day, they’re there to give me a hug, cheer me up or celebrate with me. It makes a big difference to my mood and motivation.”
