Stocks of the low-cost airline AirAsia have surged tremendously following news that Stanley Choi is a substantial shareholder. AirAsia Group shares jumped 16.56% after it was confirmed that the high stakes poker player had invested through a private placement deal.

Stanley Choi Rescues Flailing Airline

AirAsia was having a tough time, like most airlines during the COVID pandemic, until Stanley Choi stepped in.

The Hong Kong businessman has invested more than $28,000,000 into the Malaysian firm and looks to have had an immediate impact.

Shares in both AirAsia Group Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd, the low-cost long-haul affiliate, were among the most traded stocks this morning as excited investors tried to jump on the opportunity.

AmInvestment Bank Research told the media that it was still unknown if Stanley Choi would be a passive investor with his 8.96%stake, or otherwise.

One thing is for sure, any AirAsia stakeholders who have ever seen him play high stakes poker will be wanting him in the boardroom making decisions.
