The 8th and final tournament of the live series at the PokerGO studios in the ARIA Las Vegas was the biggest buy-in of all. The $25k entry was paid 73 times, making the prizepool a very healthy $1,825,000.

Holst Falls on the Bubble

With eleven spots paid, five of them five-figure sums, and leaderboard points at stake, the day one battle was fierce. It was Kristina Holst who fell in 12th, the third race in a row going to the pocket pair in the lead-up to the money bubble.

Holst: A♦ 8♠

Saliba: 6♥ 6♣

Flop: 10♠ 2♣ K♦

Turn: 9♠

River: 7♥

That secured $54k for the remaining players, with Ike Haxton falling in 10th and Dylan Weisman’s demise ending the day and setting the final table of seven.

Off to the Races

Day two dawned with Barbero top of the chip counts and Deng bringing up the rear, the Oregon pro first to fall. Sam Laskowitz was next to go, pocket queens unable to hold against Petrangelo’s K♠ 10♠

Justin Saliba was himself a victim of the ‘pocket pair race stats’, his A♥ 10♥ losing out to Shorr’s 4s when it mattered most. An ace in the window gave him momentary hope until a four also appeared on the flop. Fifth spot and $127,750 for the Las Vegas pro.

Petrangelo had to settle for 4th place and $173,375 when his river tank produced a call with top pair. Unfortunately, he had walked into a rivered flush belonging to Shorr.

A lively three-handed battle ensued, ending when Tice couldn’t get away from his flopped top pair; Barbero, however, had turned a bigger pair.

Heads-up Hero Call!

That left us heads-up, with the winner guaranteed not only a $530k payday, but also the Golden Eagle trophy for overall winner of the US Poker Open series.

Shorr quickly reversed Barbero’s 3:2 chip lead and then it all ended rather suddenly…

That was enough to not only lift the $25k title, his second victory of the series, but also pip Matthew Wantman for the overall USPO Golden Eagle trophy…
