Brazilian poker pro Rafael Caiaffa has admitted poker cheating by adding extra chips to his stack during the Latin America Poker Tour (LAPT) stop in São Paulo, leading to his disqualification and suspension from the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP).
Rafael Caiaffa, a WSOP online bracelet winner, was playing day two in event #30 of the LAPT’s BSOP Millions when he received two sets of starting chips, 100,000 chips in each rack.
He confessed to CardPlayer Brasil: “The truth was this: I entered the Mystery KO max-late and they handed me 200,000 chips: 100,000 at the island [at registration] and another 100,000 at the table.”
“I realized right away that I received more than I should, and even mentioned it to a friend of mine. I told him I would return it soon, but it they broke my table at the time – we only played three hands.
According to MundoPoker, Rafael Caiaffa was already down to just 10,000 chips when the switch happened, the player revealing: “Then I thought: ‘It won’t change anything if I keep the chips, since it was their mistake’.
That’s not how things played out, however, as his dastardly plan was soon outed by a fellow player, Eduardo Silva.
Rafael Caiaffa added:
“Obviously, I was the one who made the mistake. I’m not taking away my responsibility. A player at my table noticed and spoke up, and he’s more than right. The floor came and saw everything that happened. I also told the truth and he eliminated me.”
BSOP Tournament Director, Devanir Campos, after confirming on CCTV that Caiaffa really had cheated, explained what happened next:
“A player violated some clauses in the regulations and, because of that, suffered the sanctions that are provided for in the regulations.
“The tournament management understood that the infraction was serious enough for him to be immediately excluded from the competition and he was preventively and provisionally suspended from participating in any tournament.”
It’s unlikely that Caiaffa’s punishment will stop there, though, with Campos explaining: “After the event ends, an internal committee of ours will meet to see the type and length of suspension he will suffer, whether it will be temporary or permanent.”

Rafael Caiaffa was, until this week’s debacle, best-known for taking down the 2022 WSOP Online $2,500 Limit Hold’em Championship on GGPoker under the username “BruxoR10”
His online and live results are no longer visible on The Hendon Mob database, the 2022 bracelet victory event won by ‘Unknown player’.
This is becoming an increasingly regular occurrence with many players looking to fly under the radar results-wise, often due to tax implications.
His WSOP results are still visible, however, with 45 cashes totalling $418,263.
