Quan Zhou closes in on $10million with PGT Victory

China’s Quan Zhou took a step closer to the magic $10million tournament winnings milestone with a $316,000 scoop of the second $25k Super High Roller at the PokerGO Tour in North Cyprus.

Event #2 of the six-tournament series, a $25,750 NLH (7-Max), saw the exact same number of entries as its 8-max predecessor event #1, with 39 players ponying up the $25k for a bit of practice before the buy-ins rise through $50k and $100k to the series weekend finale – the $300k Super High Roller Bowl.

Again, there would be only six paid spots, and for the seven who returned for the final table today that meant one leaving empty-handed.

It would take almost two hours of play for the bubble to burst and it was Aram Zobian who finally had to settle for a deep run but no payday…

With $62k now locked up, Jeremy Ausmus – coincidentally one spot ahead of Zobian in the overall PGT leaderboard – found himself called out. It was hardly a button steal, but Ausmus was still behind when Ren Lin produced pocket 10s in the small blind…

Lin: 10♠ 10♦

That was great news for Brazil’s Felipe Ketzer and England’s Lewis Spencer, the two short stacks laddering up by almost another buy-in.

Although Ketzer soon bowed out in 5th spot and an $83k cash, it was far from over for the Englishman. Spencer proceeded to crack Zhou’s kings with queens…

Zhou retaliated against the other Englishman, flopping two pair to send Ben Heath tumbling out in 4th place for $116,500, leaving Lin, Spencer and Zhou three-handed.

The two Chinese players clashed in a remarkable hand, all the chips going in on the coolest of cooler flops…

Zhou: A♦ J♠

Lin: 8♥ 9♥

Flop: Q♥ K♥ 10♥

…and there was to be no reprieve on the runout…

Turn: 9♠
River: 7♦

Zhou fought back, though, and was eventually ousted by Zhou, who held a slender lead over Spencer as heads-up commenced.

It didn’t take long for that battle to come to a head…

That gave Quan Zhou his maiden PGT title, the $316,000 first-place prize, 190 PGT points, and a PGT Gold Cup. His lifetime tournament earnings of $9,535,000 places him fifth on China’s All-Time Money List.
