Rampage is on a roll. Lately he landed a huge score at the 2022 Poker Masters and now he won the biggest cash game pot of his life at Hustler Casino Live vs. Wesley, which we will analyse in our Poker Hand of the Week.
Poker Hand of the Week Setup
We are at the Hustler Casino Live high stakes cash game, which featured Ethan “Rampage” Yau, Wesley, Ali G, Mars and Nik Airball among others.
The blinds are $25/50/100 with a $50 Big Blind Ante and Wesley has Rampage easily covered at the start of our Poker Hand of the Week.
Poker Hand of the Week Action
Preflop:
Wesley open-raises from the cut-off to $600 with 10♠9♠ and both Ali G with A♠10♦ and Rampage with 8♦8♣ call from the straddles. Pot Size: $1,925
Flop:
3-way to the absolute action flop of 10♥3♠8♠, which gives the preflop raiser Wesley top pair and a flush draw, Ali G top pair top kicker and Rampage middle set!
Ali G and Rampage check to the preflop aggressor, who makes a huge $2,000 pot size continuation bet. Ali G check-raises to $7,000 and Yau is loving life.
Ethan decides to just call, but Wesley comes back over the top to $27,000 when the action is back on him. Ali G gets out of the way, Yau raises All-in and Wesley snap-calls and just like that there are a whopping: $188,325 in the pot.
Turn:
Wesley only wants to run it one time and the 2♣ is as blank as it gets. Pot Size: $188,325
River:
The 9♥ on the river does make Wesley Top Two Pair, but it is not enough to beat Rampage’s middle set, who wins the biggest pot of his life worth $188,325.
Poker Hand of the Week Analysis
Dream spot for Rampage. Let’s go through it step by step.
Preflop is total standard, the preflop raise from the cut-off with 109s as well as the calls from the blinds with A10o and Pocket Eights.
But then the dealer lays the absolute action flop into the middle, which hits all three players, Rampage by far the heaviest though.
What happens afterwards is music to Rampage’s ears. It checks to Wesley, who fires a potsize bet and Ali G makes a large raise. A 3-bet here would look insanely strong and give away the strength of Ethan’s hand, so he just calls.
Not so Wesley, who comes back over the top with a 4-bet to $27,000 basically saying he wants to play for stacks. Knowing that Yau goes All-In, after Ali G folded, and Wesley snap calls.
They run it once and Rampage manages to doge the flush to win the biggest pot of his poker career.
Poker Hand of the Week Conclusion
When it rains, it pours. Rampage continues his sunrun by winning the biggest cash game pot of his life with a perfect setup.
Both of his opponents flop well, but only a second and third best hand and on top Wesley does all the work. By 4-betting on the flop, he is basically committing himself and makes clear that he wants to play for stacks and all Yau has to do is to call.
Wesley could have easily just called instead of 4-betting and by doing that control the size of the pot. Then he could have simply folded on the river and would have lost a significantly smaller pot.
What I am saying is that Wesley overplaying his hand led to Rampage getting all the chips into the middle.
