They are playing No-Limit Texas Hold’em $200/$400 and in the last episode there was a constant straddle and re-straddle, so the game actually played as big as $800/$1,600 most of the time.

Andrew Sasson won a huge $365K Pot just before our Poker Hand of the Week and Robl always covers the whole table with large buy-ins, so both players are very deep.

Poker Hand of the Week Action

Preflop:

There is a double straddle to $1,600. Andrew Robl makes it $4,000 to go from late position with 7♠7♥ and Sasson defends his big blind with 9♠8♦. Everybody else folds. Pot Size: $10,000

Flop:

The flop of 106J♦ is mediocre for both as Robl flops third pair and Sasson a gutshot to the Nuts.

Just enough for a cbet and a call. Robl bets $5,500 and Sasson check-calls. Pot Size: $21,000

Turn:

The J♥ on the turn is a good card for Andrew Robl as it strengthens his hand. “Good2cu” now sizes up to $16,050 and Andrew Sasson decides to gamble and makes the call. Pot Size: $63,100

River:

The 7♦ on the river is a sick card as it gives both players a very strong and disguised hand.

Sasson checks for a third time, and Robl now goes for a massive overbet of $150,000.

This bet is extremely polarizing, but having hit his hand with the gutshot to the Nut Straight, Sasson makes the call.

Andrew Robl turns over Sevens Full and wins a huge $363,100 pot.

Poker Hand of the Week Analysis

Very sick hand. Let’s go through it step by step.

Preflop is pretty standard. Andrew Robl has an easy raise from late position with Pocket Sevens and 9s8d is good enough to defend the big blind with.

The flop is pretty straight forward too, as GTO dictates to cbet your pairs and a gutshot and overcards is a check-call.

When taking a look at the odds on the flop you can see that it is still almost a coinflip with 55% to 45% winning probability for Pocket Sevens.

That changes on the Jh turn as it pairs the board. The pairing of the highest card is most of the times very favourable for all flopped pairs.

Consequently, Robl’s odds to win the hand jump to 70% and he consequently fires a second barrel, which puts Sasson in a tough spot.

The important question that you should always ask yourself in this spot is: Do I have the best hand if I make my straight and is the price right.

Having to call a 76% pot size bet with only a gutshot on a paired board doesn’t give you the right pot odds and this is actually a fold as played. Andrew Sasson decides to call though.

And he gets punished straight away by a very dirty 7d on the river, hitting his gutshot and a super well-disguised nut straight with the worst thing being that Robl made a full house.

Sasson checks and here shows the class of Andrew Robl as he chooses the perfect betsizing with a massive 3x potsize overbet.

Even though Robl says he has top of his range or nothing with this huge overbet, it is a very tough spot for Sasson as he beats all Jacks and overpairs.

So he ends up making the crying call and Andrew Robl once again is the biggest winner of the night at High Stakes Poker by tking down a sizeable $363K Pot.

Poker Hand of the Week Conclusion

This river cooler is obviously one of the sickest river cards in recent times and very hard to get away from it.

However, there are two other things what are standing out from this hand: Firstly, Sasson has a clear fold on the turn as he doesn’t get the right odds to chase his straight on a paired board.

And secondly, Andrew Robl’s betsizing on the river is genius.

It’s clear that you have to go big here, and Robl manages to maximize his profits with a bally 3x potsize overbet catapulting the pot from only $63,100 to $363,100. Great value bet!
