Phil Ivey was closing in on his elusive 11th WSOP Bracelet last night. Ivey entered the final table of 2022 WSOP Event #42: $100,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller in second place and just missed the bracelet. Online crusher Aleksejs “APonakov” Ponakovs won.

Phil Ivey takes the chip lead Heads-Up
Phil Ivey entered the final table second in chips and as it unfolded, the big story became Phil Ivey with the chance to win his 11th bracelet as Ivey not only made it to heads-up play, but also took over the lead.
Ivey’s chip advantage was short-lived though, since Aleksejs Ponakovs quickly fought back winning the next two big pots in a row.
In the final hand, Phil Ivey shoved All-in on the turn with an open-ended straight, while Ponakovs had improved to Two Pair. No help on the river and Ponakovs was crowned champion of 2022 WSOP Event #42 : $1,000,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller for $1,897,363.
It is Latvian online crusher Aleksejs “APonakov” Ponakovs’ second WSOP bracelet as he won the WSOP.com $7,777 No-Limit Hold’em Lucky 7’s High Roller online in 2021.

Aleksejs Ponakovs said after his victory:
“I never had victory in live tournaments. Finally I did it. Nothing could be better at the moment.”
