Phil Hellmuth has officially agreed a rematch against Tom Dwan in High Stakes Duel. The “Poker Brat” will have to double the stakes up to $200,000 to take on Dwan again, after what was his first loss in this exciting format.
I texted my boy @TomDwan to let him know that I am officially challenging him to a match for $200,000 ($400,000 total) in “High Stakes Duel,” only on @PokerGo App. Tom is a great great poker player, and he beat me last match. I’m sure next round will be a battle! #POSITIVITY pic.twitter.com/ITo0xV6NFP

We expect the match to take place before the World Series of Poker kicks off on September 30 but no official date has yet been announced.

Can Phil Hellmuth Reclaim His Crown?
Phil Hellmuth was beginning to make this fast-paced format his own. His performance against Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu was devastating, with 3-0 victories in both.
Another win against ESPN commentator Nick Wright was expected against the amateur, but then he came across the first bump in the road when facing Tom Dwan.
After going 7-0 up, it’s no surprise that Hellmuth would be feeling a little shell-shocked. But only a couple of weeks later he has resurfaced, fully motivated once again, and is ready to reclaim his crown as the King of the High Stakes Duel.
Usually, the loser has no more than 72 hours to stakes their claim to a rematch but it appears that Hellmuth got a little leeway due to his status and record in the PokerGO studio.
Could We See More High Stakes Duel Matches during the WSOP?
With the World Series of Poker just around the corner, we can expect a long list of potential challengers for the High Stakes Duel to be present in Las Vegas.
Plenty of big names will be lurking with intent and will surely have enough free time to play a match against either Phil Hellmuth or Tom Dwan.
The most recent battle lasted only five and half hours which is short enough to easily fit into any tournament player’s schedule during the festival.
Of course, what we really want to see is Hellmuth and Dwan taking it to round three with a monstrous $400,000 buy-in, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Whatever happens we should be guaranteed more than just this rematch in the coming months.
