Phil Hellmuth has exploded into a rage during the $50K Players Championship event after facing criticism for his charging of 1.3 markup for a slice of his action.
The “Poker Brat” fired a tirade at five-time WSOP bracelet winner Adam Friedman who was sat at another table, shouting “why would you try to tilt me in the $50K you motherfucker.”
Apparently, Friedman was unimpressed with the expensive markup while Hellmuth skipped the whole of Day 1.
Phil Hellmuth Blows Up Over Criticism for WSOP Package Markup
Pretty upset! I have made @StakeKings / YouStake customers over $200K selling packages on our site. I sit down in $50K @WSOP “Players Championship” and a guy from another table implies I’m “out of line” for selling 1.3 Mark Up ($6,000!)

The animated discussion went on for several minutes with Hellmuth’s tablemates agreeing Friedman was out of order but also trying to defuse the situation.
Hellmuth said to Friedman:
“Don’t ever come up to me in a tournament again. Even the guys at my table are saying you’re out of line. Just know you’ll never win as much as me, so there’s probably some jealousy going on.”
Phil Hellmuth probably has a point when he can claim that he has made his investors over $200K from his YouStake packages.
2 If I didn’t respect that player, then I wouldn’t be upset (he lost my respect now). Folks at my table saying how out of line he was, obs not the time or place. Of course, I’m MORE upset to take 3 bad beats and be eliminated from @WSOP “Players”

The official WSOP website caught wind of the story and published a short review seen in the screenshot below.
Phil Hellmuth Responds to Yet Another Outburst
Not a week seems to go by without some kind of apology or explanation from Phil Hellmuth about the reasons for one of his meltdowns.
Surprisingly, he actually admits his ego is a problem. He also points out that general tiredness makes the situation worse, making it harder to control himself.
2 recognition when I lose a pot! And, educate my opponents: egotistical AND dumb. Too tired – I don’t play my best when I’m exhausted: this happens A LOT to me. Slept 3:30 – 2 PM, but horrible broken sleep for first 7 hrs. Eyes red, too tired, etc…So, I put myself back together

We could see a lot more of this from Phil Hellmuth as the 2022 WSOP progresses. He has already been side-lined with two bouts of illness and faced abuse from Eric Persson over the mooted $1 million heads-up match.
There’s a lot of pressure on the Madison man. Can he win a record 17th WSOP bracelet in the coming weeks? We’ll have to wait and see but he is certainly fired up right now.
