Is the next Galfond Challenge around the corner? It seems like Phil Galfond is looking for new competitors.
Phil Galfond looking for a new challenge!
After Chance Kornuth quit the third Galfond Challenge at the end of January, there haven’t been many competitors for Phil Galfond.
It’s been almost a whole month without action for him, and it seems like he is eager for some new competition.
It has been 29 days since my last challenge and I don’t know how much more I can handle.
Have any new nosebleed PLO players shown up to NV/NJ in the last month? Do I have to lay you odds? #please https://t.co/eavCHLRHRn

While there are apparently not that many players willing to go up against on nosebleed PLO, Ryan Laplante suggested the next Galfond challenge should be played in NL.
Do NL vs someone.
Get time to study and laid good odds vs elite pro, or play vs a rich fun player and lay a bit.

That would obviously take some serious preparation time, but Phil seems aware of the fact that it would not be enough.
He thinks that he is currently drawing dead vs world-class NL pros. However, he does not completely rule out this option.
I’d be willing to do NL but would really like a match I how a shot at winning. I’m probably drawing dead vs elite NL pros until I’ve got a couple full challenges under my belt.
2nd option easier said than done 🙂

Playing some warm-up matches against other players prior to going up against elite NL pros seems to be easier than finding a rich fun player who would like to compete against Phil.
Even though the Run It Once Poker founder would be laying good odds it seems unlikely that this is going to happen anytime soon.
Time to get in the NL streets?

It is currently proving extremely difficult for Phil Galfond to find an equal opponent. Those who would directly engage in a new Galfond Challenge would, by his own words, probably smash him.
Since Phil expressed his thoughts freely on Twitter, no serious contender has yet come forward. Therefore, it seems that fans of heads-up poker will have to wait a little longer for the next high stakes action.
Perhaps an option suggested by a Twitter user would be the solution.
I think a mix of NL/PLO would be really cool, it would both 'even out the playing field' if you play vs someone who's a favorite in NL but would also bring over NL ppl to watch PLO.

It would be definitely fun to watch some high stakes action at both PLO and NL. Phil has not reacted to this suggestion yet though.
While looking for a new challenger, Phil Galfond went live on YouTube and spoke to Jeff Gross in his podcast and spoke about the previous challenges that he played.
