Phil Galfond has announced a $10K prop bet to lose 20lbs and gain 40,000 social media followers within only 90 days. The PLO wizard tweeted an admission that he has tried to make staying in shape and posting more regularly on social media a priority in the past, but unsuccessfully.
Phil Galfond to Focus on Fitness, Health, and Social Media for 3 Months
What do regularly posting on social media & getting & staying in great shape have in common?
They’re 2 things that I’ve always “eventually” planned to make a priority but consistently failed to do so.
A thread on my shortcomings that I’d like to no longer be my shortcomings 🧵

Galfond explained how he is usually product-focussed in the businesses he has created and listed several reasons why he continually shies away from posting more on social media.
1) I don’t spend time on it
2) I don’t have a personality that lends itself well to creating exciting content
3) I don’t have strategic SM marketing knowledge
4) I’m way too worried about what everyone will think of each bit of content I put out 4/— Phil Galfond (@PhilGalfond) December 12, 2022
Galfond Wants to Get Fit Again
It’s easy to become disillusioned with fitness when the cycle of getting in shape and losing it all repeats multiple times.
Phil Galfond said:
If you’ve followed my career at all, you’ll have seen me overweight, in shape, and overweight again. Rinse, repeat. In the last half of 2022, while getting distracted by poker and other obligations, I’ve “let myself go” once again.”
He added that he believes his fitness and appearance is one of the most important factors in his happiness but rarely acts as if this is so.
Initially, this was going to be a private challenge with himself but in typical poker style, Galfond decided a prop bet situation was best and he reached out to a friend.
So, because I’m me, I reached out to a friend and asked if we could make a little bet!
I have 90 days (starting today) to lose 20lbs and gain 40k followers/subscribers across Twitter, IG, and YouTube.
If I fail, I lose $10k. 11/

Phil Galfond even said he will give the $10K to charity if he wins the bet.
There was a couple of worries, though. Social media, particularly Elon Musk’s Twitter, is going through a bot removal process which could make the bet so much tougher to win.
And in terms of the fitness, Phil Galfond says it will be much tougher to maintain his level than it will be to regain a respectable level from his starting point today.
