Patrick Leonard celebrated back-to-back final tables by taking down event #2 of the PGT KickOff series in Las Vegas, picking up $124,800 and pole position on the leaderboard.
The English online crusher/stable owner/CoinPoker ambassador was one of 96 players aiming to take advantage of the double leaderboard points on offer at the season opener.
There were the usual smattering of big names among the day 1 casualties, Phil Hellmuth III (big Phil’s son), Maria Konnikova, poker’s one time first couple Igor Kurganov and Liv Boeree and their successors Alex and Kristen Foxen.
Phil Hellmuth made it to the paid spots but a final table appearance eluded him…
Hellmuth: 9♠ 9♥
Cheong: 10♦ 9♦
Flop: J♣ 4♥ 2♦
Turn: 8♣
All the betting action took place on the turn, Cheong’s 4-bet shove with the open-ender putting Hellmuth at risk…
River: Q♣
…and the “Poker Brat” was out in 10th spot for $14,400.
The final table began with Natalie Ferguson as the short stack, Cheong and Joey Weissman sharing the lead, and Leonard at his second FT in a row. Chino Rheem, who seems to have shrugged off his scammer tag, was first to fall in a three-way blast-off…

…which meant Ferguson had laddered up, but she wouldn’t go any further, her K10 on a 10-high board outkicked by Weissman’s A10. Still, a well-earned 6th place and maiden PGT cash of $24,000 for the young Californian.
After Laskowitz fell in 5th, Patrick Leonard found himself on fumes after taking a big hit. He fought back, however, and sent Weissman to the rail in 4th and Cheong in 3rd spot, leaving him heads-up with Aram Zobian for a share of over $200k.
The Englishman held a significant chip lead and used it to good effect and the fin ale wasn’t long in arriving….
Zobian: 5♠ 3♠
Leonard: 10♥ 6♦
Flop: 10♣ 6♣ 4♣
Turn: 3♦
A limped pot saw Zobian check-call both streets…
River: 8♦
…and was then faced with a pot-sized shove on the river. Zobian’s tank-hero call brought the bad news and Leonard had lifted his first PGT title, $124,800, and another chink of leaderboard points.
