With the ever-growing popularity of poker in Brazil, European online poker providers have been looking to expand their services into this Latin-American country.
We are now seeing two different approaches from two very different operators trying to conquer the market.
Partypoker appointed a new ambassador
Partypoker appointed Bruno Gagliasso as its latest ambassador. While the Brazilian TV and film star is fairly unknown to people not living in Brazil, he is a superstar in his home country.
With almost 3 million followers on Facebook, 7 million on Instagram and over 4 million followers on Twitter, Gagliasso will surely bring some attention to Partypoker’s efforts.
But, Gagliasso is not the first Brazilian to join the Partypoker team. He is joining Joao Simao, a professional poker player that has been representing Partypoker for more than a year now.
Bodog sponsoring a poker club
The second approach to winning over the Brazilian market is taken by Bodog. They have recently announced that they will sponsor The H2. The H2 is the largest live poker club in Brazil.
Luana Bran, marketing coordinator for H2 Club, said that they “are excited to have a global brand like Bodog sponsoring the club. We are proud to welcome poker players from all over Brazil and we are very confident that this partnership will help both parties grow in the region and cement our reputation as the best in our areas.”
Bodog’s lounge in the H2 Club will host some amazing tournaments along with parties going on all summer long.
Bodog brand is using it Bodog.EU skin to expand into Latin America. Recently they even started an ad campaign focusing on the Brazilian and Mexican markets.
Regulatory limbo
The changes in the political landscape of Brazil have been slowing down the progress of poker regulation.
That’s not to say there has been no progress as there have been significant steps made but online gambling in Brazil is still in a state of flux.
It seems that Bodog is anticipating the Brazilian market to stay in the status quo. The company has been known for its success in the so called grey markets.
Other notable gaming operators are on the other hand preparing for a market wide regulation of online gambling.
Only time will truly tell what’s in store for online poker in Brazil.
