Mike Watson Takes Down 4th Triton Title and Artsiom Lasouski Wins on Debut

The Triton Super High Roller Series Montenegro continues to provide us with exciting, fast-paced action.

Mike Watson

Yesterday, Canada’s Mike Watson took down his fourth Triton titles while Artisom Lasouski travelled from his native Belarus to make his debut, winning Event #5.

Mike Wilson’s victory in Event #3: $30,000 NLH 8-Handed earned him just over a million dollars, the first seven-figure payday of the series.

Although this was his fourth win at Triton, it was actually the first in a NL hold’em event.

Malaysia’s Kiat Lee was the hot favourite for much of the tournament. Dominating much of Day 1 to end up chip leader, he continued the hot form all the way through to the heads-up stage. But then Mike Watson showed him it’s never a done deal until it’s truly over.

The Canadian started heads-up play well behind in chips — around 3-1 — but when the stacks were getting short he found the right hands at the right time.

Lee was magnanimous in defeat, no doubt still wondering what he has to do to seal a Triton win after 23 cashes.

Speaking after a popular win, Watson said:

“Every time you come to a Triton stop you want to come away with a trophy. You want to get a win. It feels really good to get one in hold’em now, which I hadn’t done either. Just want to keep adding.”

“The growth of the Triton tour has been incredible. Now there’s no chance I can ever skip one. The fields are so big, they’re so good. Jeju was insane and Montenegro has been good as well.”

Artsiom Lasouski

Artsiom Lasouski Crowns Triton Debut with Victory

Another feel-good story from Triton Montenegro was the debut performance of Artisom Lasouski.

The 25-year-old from Belarus is unknown on the live circuit  and we can safely say he arrived with a bang.

His Hendon Mob record starts with cashes from the WSOP Online 2020, 2021, and 2022, followed by a trip to the EPT Cyprus at the end of 2023.

That was all we knew about him until a couple of weeks ago when he returned to Kyrenia to take part in the EA Poker Tour. That went well and so the young man decided to continue his trip by hopping over to Montenegro to take on the world’s best, as you do…

After failing to cash in the first two events, Lasouski put in the performance of a lifetime to take down Event #5 – $40,000 Mystery Bounty NLH 7-Handed for a nice $669,000 plus what he draws for his 12 bounty tokens.

This makes him the youngest Triton champion since online crusher Linus Loeliger moved into live tournaments.

One look at the final table lineup shows just what a great achievement this is. It must have been a huge relief to see Danny Tang and Stephen Chidwick heading to the rail first.

Chris Moneymaker was still on a tear after taking his first Triton title in Event #1, but lady luck said no more for now and the American was out in third place.

Now it was only Samuel Ju from Germany left to deal with, but with Ju somehow coming back from the brink to build a 20bb stack, it was now a real contest for Lasouski to deal with while sitting with 55bb of his own.

And what a contest it was with the lead changing hands.

The final hand came with Lasouski’s pocket queens coming out on top on an innocuous board with the German unable to let go of a small pair in the face of aggression.
