Matthew Lambrecht has taken down Event #76: $10,000 Mystery Bounty No-Limit Hold’em for a career-best seven-figure prize.
A solid prize pool of $8,974,500 was generated by 965 entries which smashed last year’s total of 568.
Lambrecht was complimentary about the newly fashionable Mystery Bounty format, and when asked his preference he explained how it mixes it up nicely compared to regular variants
“I feel great. I recently just had my biggest score so this is another one, so it’s like, certainly. Maybe I’ll play more of the bigger stuff later this year or next year, like the $25ks or something.
“I like it. I’ve done very well in Mystery Bounties, whether or not that’s just luck but I think it’s good, you know. It kinda mixes things up, no complaints. There’s still a huge prize pool.”
Final Action
As play resumed, there were nine candidates remaining, but the bust outs came quickly. Aussie William Jia made his way to the rail almost immediately after losing a flip.
Robert Heidorn thought he was about to start a roll with a fast double-up but right after his ace-eight was beaten by Lambrecht’s to send him home.
Almost immediately, Andrei Konopelko followed along after running into pocket kings.
There was now a reshuffling of the leaderboard as several double ups occurred in quick succession. Bhalla and Davenport were now big stacks while Lambrecht cemented his position as chip leader.
But things can change quickly and Bhalla was next to leave and Minko wasn’t helped for long after hitting quads only to exit in fifth place.
Tauan Naves was now making a run after a pair of double ups just as Lithuania’s Simas Karaliunas’s event ended.
But it didn’t last for long, as Lambrecht knocked out Naves in a key hand which gave him the advantage moving into heads-up play.
Davenport started as a two-to-one underdog and although a quick double-up did help, it didn’t do anything to halt the charge of his fellow American on his way to a WSOP victory.
