Mark Newhouse on George Floyd protests: "The Aggression Started With The Police"

Newhouse was part of the peaceful protests in Downtown San Jose on May 31st. However, mentioned in his most recent Facebook posts, that there were a large police presence and intimidation.

The poker pro was hit by a rubber bullet but didn’t get injured seriously because the projectile got deflected. While it is a subjective take on the situation, he didn’t forget to follow up on his claims with video footage.

The police apparently started the aggression, the worst anybody in the protesting crowd did was throwing a plastic bottle. Nevertheless, the police responded by firing tear gas and rubber bullets.

Even though there are currently lots of people looting and robbing stores there is obviously no right to take such harsh action against non-violent protestors.

Newhouse reports that the police were chasing and arresting people for no actual reason which eventually caused people to get angry. Consequently, some of them also started doing some “stupid shit”.

He claims that the police initiated the aggression – the people who started damaging property in response to the abuse and intimidation by the police.

Even though Newhouse was only one of the poker pros to actually attend the protests, there were several others who shared their opinion on the current situation on Twitter.

Dan Bilzerian suggested limiting government power and called 2020 the year of Apocalypse.

Bill Perkins also shared a picture of Martin Luther King and the reactions to his peaceful protests.

Phil Hellmuth however, decided to spread some positive vibes by tweeting about the end of his self-isolation…

About Mark Newhouse

Mark Newhouse is the only player to make back-to-back final tables at the World Series of Poker in 2013 and 2014. Even though he finished ninth both times, it remains one of the most remarkable achievements in recent poker history.

He got busted with pocket nines against AKo in 2013 and got unfortunate once again in 2014 when he moved all-in with his pocket tens on a two-pair board on the river. Will Tonking held pocket queens, gave it a quick thought, and busted Newhouse.

Even though he won more than $730,000 for his ninth-place finish, he certainly faced some pretty unlikely situation in both years and could have made it even further in both WSOP Main Events.

Newhouse started his career at partypoker and became a poker pro after dropping out of school. Back then, partypoker was still one of the most popular US poker sites.
