Maksim Pisarenko Triumphant in $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship

Maksim Pisarenko has won his first bracelet after overcoming a 181-player field in the $10K H.O.R.S.E. to claim a $399,988 top prize.

The Russian scored his best career result in seven years of playing live tournaments to take his record up to $1,279,556.

Canada’s Mike Leah was the man who pushed Pisarenko until the end, culminating in a fierce three-hour long heads-up battle.

And poker legend Steve Zolotow continues to turn back the clock with yet another great performance to finish in fourth place.

Final Action

Pisarenko started the final day with a slender lead over Mike Leah but British high-stakes reg Benny Glaser was lurking with intent.

In the end he could only manage to last until fifth place and was soon followed out by Zolotow.

Lawrence Brandt fought valiantly but he could not prevent Mike Leah from leading the challenge to Pisarenko and the stage was set for the final showdown.

Pisarenko and Leah didn’t hang about to sus each other out and immediately set about applying maximum pressure.

The lead changed hands several times during the first level but then the Russian made a couple of hands count in the Razz round to build a sizable advantage.

But then the tables turned when Leah ran well in both Stud rounds, making a pair of full houses.

He then pulled ahead by three-to-one after yet another full house was flipped over in Omaha Hi/Lo.

This was turning into one hell of a fight and Pisarenko showed no signs of giving up, evening the stacks up in Razz and Stud.

At this point, Leah’s stack was on life support and even though he did manage a few double-ups, it was not enough to maintain his challenge and Pisarenko soon finished the job.
