Poker Hand of the Week Setup
This time we have a very sick hand from the infamous NL$1,000/$2,000 game at GG Network between the two high stakes legends Linus “LLinusLLove” Loeliger and Wiktor limitless Malinowski. When it is all set and done there are a whopping $201,740 in the middle and one player only has Queen-high!
We are once again in railbird’s heaven at the GG NL$1,000/$2,000 game, where the best players battle on a daily basis resulting in massive pots.
This time two of the biggest online high stakes cash game legends LLinusLLove and Limitless clash in a very interesting hand.
Limitless and Linus “LLinusLLove” Loeliger have a lot of history from the 6-max NL$500/$1,000 game as they are both regulars. The effective stack sizes at the beginning of the hand are 100 big blinds and limitless has Linus covered.
Poker Hand of the Week Action
Preflop Action:
Limitless raises from the button with K♥9♥ at blinds of $500/$1,000 to $2,500 and LLinusLLove makes a very large 3-bet of 5x with Q♣T♣ from the big blind.
Wiktor calls and we go heads-up to the flop. Pot size: $26,700
Flop:
The 7♥K♦K♠ is an absolute dream for Wiktor as he flops trips with a backdoor flush draw.
Linus completely whiffs, but nevertheless elects to make a very small cbet of $8,277 into $26,700 with the aim to take down the pot for cheap here. It obviously doesn’t work though and limitless decides to slow play and just calls. Pot Size: $43,254
Turn:
On the 5♥ turn things are getting even better for Malinowski, who picks up a flush draw to go together with his trips.
LLinusLLove has absolutely nothing no pair, no draw, no equity, but he decides to go for it and fires a second barrel of $22,059 with only $57,183 behind. Wiktor continues to set the trap by just calling again in position. Pot Size: $87,373
River:
Although we know that the J♠ on the river is meaningless as Linus is already drawing dead, the hand is far from over for him. He has Queen-high and in his head the only chance for him to win is a Triple barrel bluff shove. That’s what he does with his remaining $57,183 just to get snap-called by Wiktor, who wins a nice $201,740 Pot.
Poker Hand of the Week Analysis
It always looks bad, if you are running a triple barrel bluff and get snap-called by the top of the rage of your opponent, but does it make Linus bluff a bad play? Absolutely not!
Let’s analyse the hand street by street. The button raise from limitless with K9s is standard, while Linus has two options here: He can call as QTs does play well postflop or he can make a resteal. Loeliger takes the second option and makes a huge 3-bet of 5x with the aim of ending the hand right here, but limitless calls.
The paired King-high flop clearly benefits LLinusLLove’s preflop 3-betting range and he understandably goes for a continuation bet. However, Malinowski has flopped trips and goes nowhere. He could raise, but given how strong his hand is and that he has position a call is clearly favourable as it leaves all the bluffs of your opponents in.
From Linus’ perspective the 5 on the turn doesn’t change anything, that’s why he fires a second barrel. Limitless has a very easy call with trips and King-high flush draw. He again could raise here, but continuing the slow play given that your opponent continues to fire is definitely better as it sets up the trap for a river shove.
That’s exactly what happens. Linus thinks he can only win the hand with a bluff shove plus he can also credibly represent a very strong hand as he has much more Kings in his range than Wiktor.
The fact that there are already two Kings on the board makes it much more unlikely that limitless has a King and so LLinusLLove continues to tell his story by shoving All-In.
Unfortunately, this hand is one of the few occasions, where Malinowski does have the King and an easy call, but would it not have been the case this gutsy bluff would have very likely gone through.
