Landon Tice Risks His Entire Bankroll in Heads-Up Challenge vs. Bill Perkins

Landon Tice has written a blog post detailing how he came to challenge Bill Perkins in a match where he was forced to invest his entire bankroll. The young American up-and-comer said the match is due to start in around 10 days.

Did Landon Tice Get Out-Negotiated?

In the run up to the match that is certain to have all eyes fixated on it, Landon Tice is now beginning to feel that he lost out in the negotiations.

The youngster wrote a blog detailing his thoughts as the start of the match looms ever closer. He not only appears nervous about risking what could be his entire net worth, but  also thinks that Bill Perkins took full advantage of his overenthusiasm to play in one of these heads-up, high-stakes battles that has characterised the last year.

It transpires that earlier this year Bill Perkins was negotiating a 9.75bb/100 head start with none other than Doug Polk. Tice was so keen to get a deal agreed that he jumped straight in with a 9.00bb/100 offer which was promptly snapped up. Did he get mugged?

“Bill getting 9bb from me was an absolute steal on his end”

“Unfortunately for me, I was unaware of chirpings of Bill asking if Doug will give him 9.75bb/100 to play him, and agreed to a 9bb/100 spot with Bill getting 9bb from me was an absolute steal on his end, and I probably could have worked pretty hard to get to 5-6bb/100 from him if I put my foot down a little bit. Round 1, negotiating, goes to Mr. Perkins.“

In what is a story typical of the poker community, Landon Tice has admitted that he didn’t have a big enough bankroll to take on this challenge and was “…working off a shot in the dark.”

“Of course I personally don’t have a few million to pay for the buy-ins + spot + side bet if I got absolutely crushed throughout the challenge.

He hoped that his network would seize the chance to back him against Perkins, who, while incredibly smart, just doesn’t put the entirety of his life efforts into the game.

Tice doesn’t think that Perkins will have the work ethic to rise to the occasion.

““How hard will he actually try, considering he’s getting paid $720k to play 20,000 hands of poker?”

Will this Match Be a Springboard to Superstardom?

There’s no doubt that Landon Tice will have been working on his heads-up game during every spare minute he had since the match was agreed.

He wrote that he already feels he is ready to take on anybody out there. While he does mention that Doug Polk is clearly a long way in front of him, there aren’t that many players who he would back away from a match with.

“At the moment currently, I’m willing to play near almost anyone at HUNL and feel pretty solid about where I stand in that regard.
