Kristen Foxen’s hopes of becoming the first ever female winner of the WSOP Main Event came crashing down in spectacular fashion last night. Foxen fell in 13th spot as the record-breaking event reached its final table, all 9 remaining players now guaranteed $1million.
Kristen, half of poker’s leading power couple along with husband and fellow highstakes crusher Alex, began day 8 yesterday sitting comfortably and even took over the chip lead at one point.
However, her hopes were shattered in a hand that has since gone viral:
Foxen’s Folly?
Joe Serock: A♠ K♣
Kristen Foxen: K♠ Q♦
With the blinds at 600k/1.2m/1.2m ante, Serock opened UTG and Foxen called in the big blind.
Flop: A♥ K♥ J♠
A check was met by Serock c-betting ¾ pot and Foxen again called, the pot now sitting at 14.6million, Foxen with 37million behind and Serock double that.
Turn: 5♠
With Foxen checking, Serock again went big with a bet of 11.6million and sent Fixen into the tank. Eventually a peek at her cards, a glance at Serock’s stack and a shove ensued, Serock snapping it off with top two. There was to be no reprieve for arguably the best female player of the past decade…
River: 6♥
…and Kristen Foxen was out in 13th spot for a $600,000 payday and thoughts of what might have been, with Mr. Foxen hand on the rail to provide comfort on her exit.
You can watch the hand play out below:

Closing in on $1million
That still left three more eliminations before an iconic final table spot could be claimed and Brazil’s Gabriel Moura had to settle for the same payout as Foxen in 12th spot.

Frenchman Malcolm Franchi made his move shortly afterwards with a pre-flop big blind jam but also met his fate as Jordan Griff produced a bigger ace…
Malcolm Franchi: A♠ Q♥
Jordan Griff: A♦ K♣
Flop: 8♣ 4♦ 9♣
Turn: 7♣
River: 9♦
Final table bubble
That meant 11th place and by far a lifetime best score of $800,000 for Franchi and we were on the final table bubble.
Portugal’s Diego Coelho and Spain’s Andres Gonzales were the two sub-10BB stacks and main contenders for the bubble spot and so it proved. Gonzales took his chance and got a shove through and then Coelho decided he couldn’t wait any longer…
Diogo Coelho: A♣ J♠
Niklas Astedt: A♦ K♥
Coelho’s UTG raise became an all-in for the rest of his chips on the flop…
Flop: K♠ Q♦ 6♥
…and the bad news for the Portuguese player was turned face up. As with Foxen, there was to be no second chance.
Turn: Q♥
River: 8♥
The final table was set and more than 10,000 were finally down to just 9 contenders for the biggest crown in poker.

As always, we are left with a mix of experienced pros, regs and recs with the standout names being online crusher Niklas “Lena900” Astedt, and Brian Kim who already has over $7million in lifetime cashes.
From Lucky Escape to Chip Lead
Chip Leader, however, is Jordan Griff, a relatively inexperienced mid-stakes player from Schaumburg in Illinois, who was one card away from exiting on the first hand of the day, all his chips in on the flop…
Jordan Griff: Q♠ Q♦
Jessie Bryant: 3♠ 3♣
Flop: A♣ 10♠ 3♦
Turn: 8♠
River: Q♥
