This unpleasant news comes amid the latest high stakes scandal to hit the poker community this year and there will undoubtedly be more to come.
Ian O’Hara is a high stakes reg with more than $4 million in live tournament earnings who embarked on a 50/50 staking deal with Kane Kalas for cash games.
Unbeknownst to Kalas, O’Hara was also signed up to a similar deal with Jon Jaffe but the pair soon got to work checking over the results that they had both been sent.
It turns out, as you might expect, that the data didn’t match up and there was evidence of wins being reported as losses, thought to be a way to finance O’Hara’s lifestyle.
When confronted with these findings, Ian O’Hara confessed immediately, and although the deals were terminated Kalas and Jaffe agreed not to publicly humiliate him if he paid back the money, said to be in the region of mid six-figures.
This repenting was going well, with around 40% of the money returned, but then news of more shady dealings was heard.
It turns out that O’Hara sold action for the Poker Masters with no intention of playing. He sent photos of old tickets and claimed he busted. He even went as far as using a photo of a chip stack from somebody else as evidence.
I’m very sorry to all I have effected with my decisions. I made these choices on my own and I must now face the consequences. I will do everything in my power to rectify the situation as much as possible. I will do better in every aspect of life moving forward. Thank you

Ian O’Hara Says Sorry
Although this story makes sad reading, Ian O’Hara was quick to publicly apologise, promising to do better in his life in the future.
We hope this is the end of the matter but only a couple of hours after Lane Kalas tweeted this news, the thread was filling up with players claiming they had bought action from O’Hara in the recent past.
Glad to know this. I was thinking about buying pieces of him before: that money would’ve gone to waste. A lot of it probably went to his gf, she looks expensive & high maintenance.
Thanks for making this out to the Poker Community & saving others.
