Jared Jaffee Tweets Abuse at WPT Venetian Organisers for Suspected Rules Breach

Jared Jaffee besides himself with rage

Jared Jaffee has tweeted abuse at the WPT Venetian organisers over a possible perceived rules breach. The high stakes tournament reg looks to be extremely upset over a decision not to put the final table together with only eight runners left, but there is almost certainly more to this story.

Jared Jaffee sounds more than a little upset at what transpired during the closing stages of the WPT Venetian.

“Weird? No it’s literally criminal”

Reading between the line of the Twitter thread it looks as if there was disagreement with the organisers over still running two tables with only eight players left.

This is understandable because the current COVID-19 restrictions in Nevada allow for eight players to be seated at the same table as long as they wear masks.

The general tone of the replies makes out that this is not much of a surprise with the WPT or the Venetian Poker Room, but Matt Savage tends to get a lot of respect.

Jared Jaffee Tweets Abuse at WPT Venetian Organisers for Suspected Rules Breach

Was Jared Overreacting or is a huge scandal brewing?

When Jared Jaffee says he will be writing more about what a disgrace the WPT, Venetian Poker Room, and Matt Savage, it sounds serious. Surely there is more to this outburst than simply being forced to play four-handed when a proper final table could have been run.

Matt Savage is one of the most experienced tournament directors in poker right now. It’s hard to believe that he would arbitrarily breach any rules.

In fact, the official tournament Rule & Information sheet states the following:

“PLAYERS PER TABLE: Play will begin 8-handed. Play will move to 6-handed for the Official WPT Final Table.”

So, just what has upset Jared Jaffee—a man who has won millions of dollars playing live poker tournaments. This includes winning a couple of WPT events, a WSOP Circuit event, and a WSOP gold bracelet.

“It’s honestly way worse when u hear the whole story”

Jaffee posted a further tweet saying:

“It’s honestly way worse when u hear the whole story”

We await a further update on the story.

Update

As he promised, Jared Jaffee posted an update on why he was so angry. We were right to assume that it was due to the organisers declining to play eight-handed with eight players left.

It is claimed that all ten remaining players objected to keeping play over two tables needlessly when the entire tournament had been eight-handed from the start.

Matt Savage was called, and he refused to change what the rules had always said. Tommy Larosa, the decision maker at the Venetian backed Savage.

Although the rules did plan for a six-handed final table, a clear mistake of saying there would be a redraw at seven-handed was enough of a reason for Jared Jaffee to feel the players should have had their way in a $5K event.
