Hand of the Week – Jared Bleznick Has $450,000 Disaster on High Stakes Poker

It’s only a couple of weeks into 2025, and the horrendous bad beats are already coming in. None more galling than the $450,000 lost by Jared Bleznick the other night.

On Monday night, High Stakes Poker Season 14 kicked off with its usual fanfare and a great line up that included Bleznick and veteran Andrew Robl.

When the action began, there was more than $1 million on the table with five newcomers ready to show that they have what it takes at stakes of $200/$400.

Jared Bleznick Suffers Career Worst Bad Beat

The most shocking hand of the night was played between newcomer Marc Kulick and Jared Bleznick, a newcomer himself but one with almost $10 million in live tournament winnings.

With an $800 straddle in play, Kulick raised to $2,200 in the cutoff with A♦ Q♠. Bleznick three-bet to $6,000 on the button, holding K♣ Q♣. The blinds folded and Kulick called.

Before the flop was dealt, Kulick announced that he was betting $2,500 — known as betting in the dark.

The flop came down 10♦ 9♣ J♥ to give Bleznick the nuts with his straight.

Not in the mood to slowplay in front of the cameras, Bleznick quickly raised it up to $10,000 and was called equally quickly by Kulick with his one-card open-ender.

The turn was the 7♦ which changed nothing for either player. Kulick checked again and Bleznick fired out a bet of $25,000. Kulick called.

And here’s where the mess arrived. The K♠ river completed Kulick’s straight draw but, more importantly, it was the nut straight after Bleznick’s king-high straight was relegated to the second nuts.

Kulick started his value extraction with a check and Bleznick fired the third barrel of $50,000. Kulick quickly moved all-in for $183,000, instantly changing the mood of his opponent.

Bleznick paused as if he already knew that he was beat. Possibly he did sense it but didn’t want to accept what his instincts were telling him.

Eventually, the American couldn’t find enough reason to fold and called it all off.
