It began with Patrik Antonius’ induction and ended with Jamie Walden taking down the title, the Englishman scooping $313,370 and WSOP gold in the Poker Hall of Fame Bounty event.
Event #95: $1,979 Poker Hall of Fame Bounty No-Limit Hold’em
Some 1,119 entries came in for the popular tournament, the buy-in reflecting the year that an inaugural seven players were inducted into the Benny Binion-created Poker Hall of Fame.
By the start of day 3 yesterday, only nine contenders remained, Martin Finger, Adam Hendrix and David Stamm among them, though nobody had more than 25bbs.
The third hand of the day saw Walden fell Juncker and then it was Akinobu Maeda hitting the rail, the Japanese player shoving the turn when he was already almost dead in the water…
Akinobu Maeda: A♦ A♣
David Stamm: 10♠ 10♥
Flop: 6♥ 10♣ K♥
Turn: 3♦
River: Q♠
Stevenson, Finger and Ahuja all followed Maeda to the rail before the break, leaving four players with 6-figure cashes locked up and chasing the gold bracelet.
Salem saw off Hendrix’s last stand and then got lucky when Stamm shoved blind on blind…
David Stamm: Q♦ Q♣
Naseem Salem: 4♥ 4♣
Flop: 10♠ 6♣ 9♠
The flop missed both, but the turn was another story entirely…
Turn: 4♦
River: J♦
Heads-up was a ding-dong affair, first one player then the other doubling but there can be only one, of course, and eventually matters came to a conclusion.
Naseem Salem: 9♦ 7♦
Jamie Walden: 10♣ 3♣
Flop: 7♣ K♠ 9♣
The chips went in on the flop with top two for Salem against a flush draw for Walden…
Turn: 8♣
River: Q♠
“I’m feeling exhausted to be honest,” Walden told reporters after his maiden WSOP victory, correcting himself quickly: “Well, I’m feeling amazing. I slept badly last night, and I kept waking up dreaming of poker hands. I only slept four hours or so I think.”
