Twitch Poker streamer Jaime Staples has accused Doug Polk of being sexist after criticising CNN for referring to her as a “Top Poker Player.” Staples reckons he wouldn’t have made the remark on Twitter if it was a man. Doug obviously denies this and says he would have done it towards any player with only $300k in live tournament winnings.
Jaime Staples Thinks Doug Polk Is Sexist
What do you think their audience all grinds 100NL?? It’s CNN health ffs. The average reader of this article won’t know hand strengths and yet Maria hasn’t earned the right to be considered “top” to a pop audience?
— Jaime Staples (@jaimestaples) June 8, 2021
Staples was quick to pounce on the fact that CNN Health’s audience is mostly made up of people that don’t even know poker’s hand rankings, so why wouldn’t a player be considered “top” if they’d won such an amount?
Doug Polk quipped back – “Top MTT Pro” Jaime Staples, along with a few more aimed at even himself, plus Dan Bilzerian and Luke Schwartz. Clearly not taking Staples seriously.
Well at least your being consistent and not, once again, cherry picking some moment where a women in poker is getting attention, and then nitpicking the most useless irrelevant part of the discussion. Cus that shit is weeeeeak.
— Jaime Staples (@jaimestaples) June 8, 2021
Polk then berates everyone who posted a comment claiming he was being mean, saying “Are we going to call a spade a spade or not. Its insulting to the game to call amateur players “top” players.“
Is Jaime Staples Still Angry Over Dan Bilzerian Calling Vanessa Kade a Ho?
Jaime Staples then takes the argument back to when Doug Polk didn’t support Vanessa Kade when Dan Bilzerian called her a ho, but instead criticised her for using International Women’s Day as a reason to avoid being dropped by Whats weak is thinking gender should influence how we view someone’s accomplishments. — Doug Polk (@DougPolkVids) June 8, 2021 Jaime Staples accuse Polk of “cherry picking” a moment when a woman in poker is getting attention before “nitpicking the most useless irrelevant part.” Polk says it’s weak to be influenced by gender when making an objective assessment, and sexist in itself, which Staples agrees with. A charge of sexism in the modern day is a serious thing. In years gone by people might not have cared one little bit but the world has changed. It’s completely wrong to throw out these accusations with no hard evidence. When pressed on the fact he chose to criticise Kade over Bilzerian Polk states quite clearly: “When I look at an issue I dont come from the framework of “Which person is in the less advantaged minority group, ok lets defend them”“ He also enquires if Jaime Staples thinks he wouldn’t have made the post if it was about a man, and is told yes, before accusing Polk of having an unconscious bias. Doug Polk’s response: That is ridiculous, I have tweeted so many things like this about men throughout my life and anyone who had 300k in live mtt earnings getting called a “top player” was getting this tweet. Also its hilarious to basically say “yeah you are sexist but dont realize it like I do”. — Doug Polk (@DougPolkVids) June 8, 2021 We invite the readers to make up their own minds.
