The WSOP may be done and dusted but there’s been no letup in poker action, which has mostly gone back online this week after seven weeks of live play.
Last night saw Ilya Anatski scoop the GGPoker Super High Roller while Niklas “Lena900” Astedt followed up his Main Event 3rd spot with his own online win.
We’ll deal with Astedt’s “powergrind” separately, but first up the regular Tuesday night tournament for the nosebleed MTT crowd, the GG Super High Roller. This week it drew in 146 entries with a final table spot worth $50k or so and a whopping $317,000 plus change up top.
Among those who made it that far, Canada’s Michael Jozoff, who was sitting on a monster 122BB stack but confusing watchers at home with his Adrian Mateos avatar!
Jozoff’s nearest challenger was the anonymous crusher “xxkfiss” on 74BB, and then two of GGPoker’s biggest winners, Belarus’ Ilya Anatski and Latvia’s Aleks Ponakovs, both on 40 bigs.
The biggest weekly online SHR is always streamed on YouTube, and this week fans had the opportunity to get Jonathan Jaffe’s take on play, alongside the show’s regular host, Jeff Gross.
Volodymyr Palamar’s bustout in 7th was the first talking point, Jozoff’s cut-off shove with [ac] [6c] unexpected, running into Palamar with kings on the button but a gut-wrenching ace on the flop ending the Ukrainian’s hopes.
Jozoff also took out Aleks Ponakovs, who staked his last dozen bigs on suited Broadway cards but couldn’t win a race against Jozoff’s pocket 8s…
Ponakovs: K♣ J♠
Jozoff: 8♦ 8♥
Flop: 2♠ 5♥ A♠
Turn: Q♦
River: 8♠
Anatski ousted “rieeson” in 5th spot with fishhooks holding up against a suited A9 and then the Belarusian saw off “xxkfiss”, this time kings dominating a K7off.
Down to just three and this time it would be Jozoff, with Q9 off, facing pocket 8s as “hazuzukaa” jammed his short stack pre. A sweet 9 on the flop was all Jozoff needed to set the heads-up finale against Anatski.
It didn’t take long for Anatski to level the stacks and then a call following a pre-flop 4-bet from Jozoff led to the denouement…
Anatski: [jc] [10d]
Jozoff: 7♦ 7♠
Flop: 10♣ 10♥ 5♦
Jozoff continued on what he could reasonably expect to be a good flop for his 7s…
Turn: 9♦
…but his turn check was met by Anatski shoving and he couldn’t find enough reason to fold. The river blanked…
River: K♠
…and the GGPoker Super High Roller title for the week went to the Belarusian crusher. Anatski now has almost $4.5million in GGPoker winnings.
