Isaac “Ike” Haxton took down event #6 of the Poker Masters in Vegas last night, his first win of the series worth $352,800 taking him to within striking distance of $50million lifetime tournament earnings.
The 2023 PGT Player of the Year was among 84 entries to the first of two $15k buy-in tournaments, the prizepool set at $1,260,000 with 12 players taking home a share.
Kristen Foxen, Daniel Negreanu, Justin Bonomo, Chris Brewer, and Erik Seidel were part of a long list busting before the money, with the bubble boy being Daniel Weinand…
Weinand: A♣ K♣
Jozoff: J♠ J♦
All the chips went in pre-flop…
Flop: 4♥ 7♦ 3♠
Turn: 5♥
River: 5♠
…and that left the remaining dozen with $31,500.
Day one ended when Jozoff himself fell in 8th spot, a rivered higher pair for Jim Collopy sending him to the rail for $50,400.
Back for the final table the following day came seven contenders, led by Haxton and Dylan Linde, with Sean Winter and Nick Schulman bringing up the rear.
Popular commentator and pro Schulman was first to depart when he turned a flush to raise his hopes of survival only to see the river fill Linde’s boat.
Linde himself fell next, in 6th for $63,000, after a quadruple hit – first Haxton, then Winter, Becker, and finally Collopy pulling his stack to pieces.
Big slick vs big slick
Collopy also ended Winter’s dreams, flopped top against bottom pair enough for the KO, and then Zobian was victim of the 5% difference between suited and unsuited…
Zobian: A♠ K♥
Becker: A♣ K♣
Flop: Q♣ 3♦ 3♣
Turn: 6♣
River: Q♥
Down to just three and Jeremy Becker was looking for a second victory after bagging event #2, but would eventually have to settle for a podium spot and $163,800 after he ran into Haxton’s flush draw on the flop…
Becker: A♦ 6♦
Haxton: 10♠ 6♠
Flop: K♥ Q♠ 2♠
Turn: 7♣
…which got there on the river….
River: 9♠
Flipping heads-up
A tough battle ensued which eventually saw Haxton and Collopy agree to chop the money and flip for the title and leaderboard points, their hands forced by the upcoming end of late reg for event #7.
Collopy lost most of his stack on the first flip, won the next two to see a ray of hope, but fell on the fourth when Haxton flopped a pair and rivered trips to seal the deal.
