Phil Galfond is one of the most respected poker players. Find out here what he did to get kicked out of the legendary poker TV show High Stakes Poker.
Just like almost every other poker fan, High Stakes Poker was Phil Galfond’s favourite TV poker show. However, when he found himself actually playing against the likes of Sammy Farha, Eli Elezra, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and Jennifer Harman, he was scared stiff.
“The high stakes didn’t bother me at all,” reveals Galfond, adding: “I’d spent plenty of time playing against the best online poker players in the world at $200/$400 and $300/$600.
“What made me uncomfortable was playing poker on television, and the SPEED at which it happened.”
Invited by Mori Eskandani via Tom Dwan, Galfond soon found himself folding queens to a Farha bluff, being called a nit, and then mucking the winning hand after a 6-way check from the flop to the river!
“My hopes and dreams of being a poker superstar were dashed,” says Phil Galfond, revealing he got a call the next day to say he “wasn’t needed because I was bad TV – I was boring!”
