One of the biggest comebacks in poker history
As mentioned above, the Poker Brat got as low as 3,000 chips, before he began one of the most insane comebacks ever seen.
First he picked off Daniel’s bluff, and then made a huge bluff himself, where he got Daniel Negreanu to fold Pocket Queens with nine-high!
Soon after, Hellmuth doubled up, when he hit his combo draw and then he took over the chip lead for the first time after winning a huge pot with a flopped two pair against Daniel’s top pair.
During the ensuing period, Hellmuth continued to grind Negreanu down, before the latter got it in with 76s and ran into the Pocket Nines of Hellmuth.
No help from the board and Phil once again defended his High Stakes Duel title after an absolutely epic comeback.
Daniel Negreanu challenges Phil Hellmuth to a rematch
After the last card was dealt, Daniel Negreanu immediately challenged Phil Hellmuth to a rematch, which means the two will be battling for $200,000 in Round 2.
“I would rematch Phil for eternity”
Daniel Negreanu said:
“I would rematch Phil for eternity. There is no possible way I would say no to a rematch with Phil Hellmuth.”
Phil Hellmuth replied:
“I think he affected me mentally by attacking my legacy a little bit. I felt like I had been under attack all month. I felt like I had earned this legacy of being the greatest poker player of all time because I’ve been winning tournaments since 1988, and there has been no one else that has been doing it that long. So, there is no other candidate. I’m not even bragging when I say I’m the greatest of all time. He just wasn’t even giving me that credit. Just give me that, at least.”
“I’m not afraid of anything”
Phil Hellmuth continued his rant:
“They thought I was afraid to play Antonio heads-up, and I smacked him. I’m not afraid of anything.”
Phil Hellmuth epic comeback and glorious victory is another step on the way to prove his doubters and haters wrong. However, he will have to beat Daniel again in Round 2, to completely silence them and to finally earn the respect of the online poker community.
