It’s Gonna Be a Long Winter for Gus Hansen in the High Stakes Games at Bobby’s Room

Gus Hansen is set up for a long winter in the shark tank that is Bobby’s Room. The high stakes legend is back in action taking on the world’s best in the Bellagio Casino, Las Vegas.

Gus Hansen Takes on the Best

On Christmas Eve, most of us tend to feel like taking life a bit easy. Not Gus Hansen.

Here he is stopping by Bobby’s Room for a little high stakes action playing mixed games against some real crushers. None other than Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates, Timofey ‘Trueteller’ Kuznetsov, and David Oppenheim.

Four-handed action against these beasts is never likely to turn out well. Particularly playing mixed games.

No matter how much you respect Gus Hansen, there’s just no way he can be considered anything but the underdog in this game.

His Instagram catchphrase heading into the Christmas period has been “It’s gonna be a long winter”. Statistically, it’s impossible to argue with him.

That said, Hansen does keep on returning to the Bellagio to seek out action. This can only mean that there are some unknown players we never hear about who are regularly invited to come and donate.

Who Does Gus Hansen Play Against?

Let’s take a look at just why Gus Hansen cannot expect to be a winner in these games.

For starters, Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates is one of the most feared cash game players the world has ever seen. He first came to note as a high stakes cash player who took on Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan in his infamous challenge.

Jungleman stormed straight into a $1 million lead after only 20,000 hands of $200/$400 NL. For whatever reason, Dwan has constantly come up with excuses to not finish the challenge he offered to the world except Phil Galfond.

Timofey ‘Trueteller’ Kuznetsov is another beast who has won around $5 million playing online cash games – both NL and PLO.

Not a committed tournament player, the 28-year-old Russian has also won more than $5 million playing high stakes live tournaments. Clearly not a guy you fancy facing over the felt.

David Oppenheim is a former Full Tilt Poker ambassador. Known to be one of the greatest cash game players of all-time.

He had already been a professional poker player for 5 years when online was born back in 1998. Another guy you should think twice about playing mixed games with.

Money to Burn

Gus Hansen famously lost $21.7 million playing online cash games on Full Tilt Poker. $5.8 million in 2014 alone.

What many don’t seem to think about is that he made good money when he sold his PokerChamps shares to Betfair. He is also a world class backgammon player with the potential to cash in there too.

Maybe it’s possible that Hansen’s losses in poker make only a small dent in his net worth. Full Tilt Poker would certainly have paid him handsomely during the poker boom, and it’s doubtful he ever paid any rake.

When he travels to Las Vegas he seems to be grinding it out every day. Only two weeks ago he was in full flow taking on Jungleman and Mikael Thuritz.

Thuritz is a Swedish cash game star known online as ‘ChaoRen160’. He famously became the first westerner to really make it big in Macau, long before the exodus we have seen in recent years.
