GGPoker WSOP Online Series Smashes Records with $114.8 million prizemoney

GGPoker’s International WSOP Online Bracelet Series was its biggest yet, the 33-bracelet festival producing mind-boggling numbers across its seven-week run.

Now in its 5th year since being introduced during the 2020 pandemic lockdown, 2024’s edition has just finished and the numbers make for startling reading:

  • 150,000+ overall entrants
  • $114.8 million prizemoney
  • 52,452 entries for Mystery Millions tournament
  • Guinness World Record $27.5 million Main Event prizepool.

While the players did very well from the monster prizes on offer, GGPoker didn’t leave empty-handed themselves – rake and admin fees amounting to a whopping, and also record-breaking, $7.75million.

Poker Industry PRO’s deep delve into the stats behind the international version of the WSOP Online series was revealing, even to those who knew the numbers were going to be huge.

Their mid-series analysis showed that this year’s premier online festival was well on course to beat the 2023 version, but what was perhaps unexpected was how strong the second half of the Series would prove to be.

“Finishing in especially strong fashion, the $1500 buy-in Closer event saw turnout rise from 1263 entries last year to 2159 this year, up over 70% and generating a prize pool of over $3 million,” revealed Anuj Arora, PIPro’s poker editor.

Main Event Smashes $25million Guarantee

The flagship event of the 2024 WSOP Online Series, the $5k Main Event, was back to a $25million guarantee, the same as the inaugural version in 2020.

However, that guarantee was smashed when 6146 entrants bought in, 123 more than last year, producing a $29,193,500 prizepool. Germany’s Moritz Dietrich bagged the biggest online poker tournament prize in history when he walked off with the $4,021,012 top prize.

That means GGPoker can now boast the top four biggest online tournaments of all-time. Interestingly, the bigger the buy-in, the better the events seemed to do.

Sergio Aido won the GGMillion$ SHR for $1,935,575 after the $10,000 buy-in event smashed its $10 million guarantee. A massive 1433 entries – “the largest tournament on GGPoker outside of the WSOP Online Main Event,” according to PIP, dwarfed last year’s 1140 entries.

The $25k version, won by Francesco “forzaitalia” Garofalo for $1,122,201,  was similarly impressive, with last year’s 145 entries up to 230 this year, a 58.62% year-on-year increase.

The Millionaire Maker, Gladiators of Poker, and both Main Events all did better than last year, with the $1500 buy-in Closer up a massive 70.94% from 1263 entries to 2159.

Colossus Tops Pandemic Numbers

Another very notable success was the $400 COLOSSUS, which not only smashed last year’s numbers but also topped the inaugural 2020 version – a year when people literally had nothing else to do.

On the downside, of which there were very few, the Short Deck Championship was less successful, dipping from last year’s 126 entries to just 92 (-26.98% YOY). The $5000 6-Handed NLH Championship also saw a slight drop in numbers, from 487 to 478.
