Gal Yifrach is up against a superseding indictment following claims by federal investigators that he continued his activities for more than one year after the first indictment.
The second indictment was filed by a grand jury in the United States District Court Eastern District of California on January 16, 2025, with two key additions from the original.
Gal Yifrach Facing Serious Prison Time
All the way back in March 2022, Gal Yifrach, a WSOP bracelet winner, hit the poker headlines after being indicted for running an illegal gambling business and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The combined total of 25 years prison time and as much as $750,000 fine was enough to make you eyes water, let alone with three years supervised release when or if parole is granted.
Prosecutors presented an outrageous 142,689 pages of evidence against Yifrach who was initially remanded awaiting trial. A judge eventually agreed for him to pay bond and he remains free for now.
The gambling charges were that of supplying, operating, and maintaining video poker machines. Yifrach would then launder the proceeds at a casino in Bell Gardens, California, by buying chips and later exchanging them for a cheque which could be used to deposit “legal” funds into his bank account.
Considering all of that, the feds look to be confident about their case. And because of that, if Gal Yifrach has truly continued with his alleged operation, it really beggars belief.
Originally, the indictment in March 2022 said:
“…beginning no later than or about January 2018, and continuously thereafter through in or about January 2022, in the State and Eastern District of California, did conduct, manage, supervise, and direct all or part of an illegal gambling business, to wit, a gambling business supplying, operating, and maintaining video slot machines and devices and involving receiving, holding, and forwarding money to be staked, pledged, bet, and wagered upon the result of a contest and contingent event.”
The superseding indictment says that Yifrach’s illegal business ran “continuously thereafter through in or about July 2023.” That’s a full 16 months from when he landed in court the first time.
The other change from the original indictment was the list of defendants. Schneur Zalman Getzel Rosenfeld accepted his fate last year by pleading guilty.
Jesus Cisneros-Sanchez and Phuoc Tran are new additions to the indictment. Both are currently free but sought after by the police.
