The nosebleed MTT crowd was out in full force this week as the GGPoker WSOP Online SHR played out, with Francesco “forzaitalia” Garofalo upsetting the applecart to scoop the title and $1,122,201.84 top prize. Garofalo defeated Chris Brewer heads-up for the win.
Among the runners, Daniel Negreanu, Bryn Kenney, Patrick Leonard, Daniel Dvoress, Michael Addamo and a slew of others, including strong Brazilian players and several Russians.
Dnegs livestreamed his tilt at a big score but it ended short of the money when he ran his dwindling stack into Leonard…
Negreanu: K♦ J♣
Leonard: 7♦ 7♣
Facing a button open from Leonard, Negreanu only called…
Flop: 7♠ 9♦ K♠
…and then check-jammed, hoping for K10 or similar. He called quick,” said Negreanu as he received the bad news. The turn gave him hope…
Turn: J♦
…but the river bricked…
River: 2♠
…and Daniel was out short of the paid spots.
By the time the final table was reached, the final nine were assured of $140k plus payouts, with Ole Schemion bagging 8th place ($181,914) and Adrian Mateos in 6th ($305,942).
Danchev, the short stack, was well on his way to a double-up when he called Garofalo’s blind-on-blind shove, but his pocket 10s fell to a disgusting runout…
Leonard finally picked up a hand to make stand with, K♣ 8♥ , but his small blind shove was called by Brewer in the big blind, the US pro’s A♠ 8♠ dominating and never in trouble.
Down to three and it was Kenney at risk when he shoved with 4s and, when Brewer made the call, it was off to the races…
Kenney: 4♥ 4♣
Brewer: A♣ Q♦
Flop: 3♦ 2♠ 6♦
Turn: 7♦
Kenney looked like doubling through but the river had other ideas…
River: Q♠
That left Brewer and Garofalo heads-up, with $250k difference between first and second and the stack relatively close. Garofalo pulled away, and with Brewer stating “I have no idea what I’m doing” several times in the chat, the denouement came quickly.
Flop: 5♥ 8♠ 9♣
Turn: 3♥
River: 4♣
All the chips went in on the river and Brewer found out to his cost that kickers count…
Brewer: 9♥ 2♥
Garofalo: 10♦ 9♦
With that, the relatively unknown Francesco “forzaitalia” Garofalo had downed the world’s best to claim the victory, WSOP gold and a monster payday.
