Superstar GG Poker Ambassador Fedor Holz Takes Down Triton Jeju Event #1

Fedor Holz has won Event #1 – $15k NL Hold’em 8-Handed at the Triton Poker Series in Jeju. The German superstar topped a record-breaking field of 269 entries to collect a $786,000 first-place prize.

The field was the biggest ever for an opening event in the popular live series, building a tidy prize pool of more than $4 million.

Word on the street is that even bigger fields are expected in the coming months as more and more players who normally play more reasonable stakes are attracted to the glitz and glamour of the Triton Poker Series.

So, things are changing fast it seems, but one thing which never changes is just how well 30-year-old Fedor Holz performs against the world’s best.

Fedor Holz Takes on the World’s Best and Wins

Even at this early stage of the series, the results table already looks like a who’s who from the poker elite.

Ike Haxton and British crusher Stephen Chidwick only just missed out on a final table place. Canadians Daniel Dvoress and Timothy Adams weren’t far behind.

Former WSOP Main Event champion Espen Jorstad also made the money.

When the final table got going, it was Seth Gottlieb who led the way with almost double the chips of second place.

GGPoker brand ambassador Fedor Holz and Nick Petrangelo sat with barely one third of the leader’s chips.

Petrangelo still managed to keep the wolves from the door to rack up a fourth-place finish after a rocky ride throughout the event. He three-bet KQo and ran his last 21 big blinds into the pocket kings of Gottlieb with no help arriving.

The American is still without a Triton title to his name and this close finish might sting a little.

Next up to head to the rail was Bulgaria’s Dimitar Danchev. Gottlieb was starting to stretch his lead but Fedor Holz pulled off a timely knockout to narrow the gap with ATo against A4s.

And then there were only two remaining. Gottlieb with 55 big blinds and Holz not too far behind with 35.

The American must have been excited about the possibility of bagging his second Triton title. He famously won his first in a PLO event having only just learned the rules of the game weeks before.

Sadly for him, though, today was to be Holz’s day.

Gottlieb did a great job at the start of heads-up play, picking up a smattering of small pots, but then the wheels started to come off.

He slowplayed pocket aces like a master but Holz hit a miracle river to turn the tables. Gottlieb continued to bring in the small wins but the experienced Holz made every ounce of skill tell when big pots were on the line.

When Gottlieb was down to his final 10 big blinds, Holz managed to get his pocket jacks all-in against QTo and it was all over. Holz was a four-time Triton champion.
