2plus2 forumite ‘OMGJustinBieber’ has posted handy spreadsheet screenshots of every player who has lifted the ultimate title in poker, since Scotty Nguyen took the Main Event gold bracelet in 1998 up to Espen Jorstad’s win last year, alongside their non-ME earnings.

Gold strikes Gold…

The biggest winner of all in the WSOP ME charts is of course Jamie Gold who pocketed $12,000,000 back in 2006 at the height of the poker boom.

Fast-forward a decade and a half, though, and he only has just over $500k more than that to show in lifetime earnings, placing him near the bottom of the table and indicating he was one of the “luckbox” winners.

;

That isn’t always the case, though, with Irish player Noel Furlong, who passed away in 2021 aged 83, bottom of the list with only $145k outside of his 1999 win. Furlong, though, played little tournament poker after his big win, concentrating more on his business interests instead.

Koray Aldemir has the most lifetime earnings among all WSOP Champions

At the top of the charts, 2021 winner Koray Aldemir has more than $13million in earnings to add to his $8million WSOP victory. As one forum member posted: “Koray only just won the main not long ago and already top the winnings outside main, he’s gonna run away with this as time goes on being the high stakes crusher that he is…”

You call, it’s gonna be all over baby!

Scotty Nguyen, who pocketed $1million in 1998, has won almost $12million in other tournaments and can easily be classed as one of the best players among the ME winners.

The discussion around the interesting listings saw ‘DogFace’ comment: “Broadly, we can maybe categorize these guys:

  • good players who kept winning (i.e. Cada, McKeehen, Mortensen)
  • good players who stopped playing (i.e. Eastgate, Heinz),
  • flukes who were smart enough to basically walk away (i.e. Yang, Varkonyi, Eastgate? Heinz? Blumstein?)
  • flukes who eventually gave most of it back (I won’t name names, but we can speculate).”
