It may not rival his recent WSOP Main Event win, but this week saw Espen Jorstad add the unlikely Tortilla Slap Challenge title to his recent victories, a $25k buy-in the prize!
Jorstad is enjoying the new-found fame and fortune following his historic $10million victory in Las Vegas, the Norwegian mixing it with the highrollers at the Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party.
Part of that involved participating in the $25,000 MPP Tortilla Slap-ellite Challenge, which saw Jorstad joined by Dusk Till Dawn boss Rob Yong, ACR supremo Phil Nagy, he irrepressible Tony G, and Argentina’s Jose “Nacho” Barbero.
Yong decided to get in some practice for the event, which featured a $5k buy-in and a winner-takes-all ticket to the $25k SHR as a prize. He took on Antanas “Tony G” Guoga, the former politician, poker pro, basketball team owner and winner of the $10k MPP High Roller this week.
Just warming up slapping @TonyGuoga for the Tortilla Satellite, $5k buy in. 5 runners, mouth full of water. If you’re wondering where the Tortilla Slap Challenge came from, it was a TikTok sensation that really took off when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson faced off against comedian and huge poker fan, Kevin Hart.
The contestants have to fill their mouths with water, then usually play a game of rock, paper scissors, with the winner of each hand getting to smack the other player across the chops with the wheat flour flatbread.
The Luxon Pay MPP version dispensed with the rock, paper, scissors element and, with Ebony Kenney as MC and referee, the video shows it was a slap-happy, free-for-all.
Yong’s practice session did him little good as his weight disadvantage showed, while Phil Nagy was wildly off the mark with several slaps, and Tony G couldn’t repeat his success from the highstakes poker tables.
It all came down to a finale between WSOP champ Jorstad and Barbero, but nicknames couldn’t save “Nacho” as Jorstad landed a clean blow that won him a seat into the $25k and the title of Tortilla Slap-ellite Champion!
